I think we look a better team now, if still bereft of confidence and carrying some players with the wrong attitude.

Obviously Milwall was an awful result, but immediately before that we'd been on a decent run and it's felt to me like we've been gradually (and slowly) getting better over time under Adkins. It obviously isn't an easy job as shown by the fact that both managers have struggled to get results.
What decent run did I miss? I thought over Xmas against Leeds, Derby and for a half against Fulham we looked like we may be on to something, but just downhill since - losing to Bolton , not scoring against Sunderland or Reading , all leading to that debacle against Millwall

We look more organised and more coached. Which is probably down to Adkins being allowed to recruit an experienced coach to organise the squad, a luxury Slutsky never had.

I always thought Slutsky should have had somebody with a lot of experience working in English football alongside him
he really wasn't given enough support

The games immediately before Milwall. 2 wins and a draw from 4. Our joint-best run of the season.

Yeah there were certainly plenty of mitigating factors.

Both are probably decent managers.

Not sure why people focus their scrutiny on their shortcomings when the reasons for our decline are 100% down to the bungling mismanagement of our squad and football management staff by the usual suspect.

5th manager in 18 months or so.

Do the math.

Shouldn't he have had someone ready for that before he took the job? I think the Allams didn't really think things through, at least Silva had a team behind him when he arrived.

Because apparently we get extra points for manager interviews after matches, having just the right balance of positivity and negativity, for looking cool enough and saying they are ****e after a loss. Managers are wizards with a magic wand who make average players suddenly great and can heal injured players quickly by their miracle powers.

I blame FIFA and FM for convincing people this management malarkey is easy, just because they got Hull City to be champions of Europe.

Makes me cringe hearing people calling for him to go after so few games too.

When the difference between the two managers is so bleedingly obvious on the pitch right in front of your eyes, it doesn't take an expert to notice we've gone massively downhill since the disastrous decisions to appoint Adkins.

Ok then..

Bruce left 23 July 2016
Phelan Jan 2017
Silva May 2017
Slutsky Dec 2017
Adkins (still in position)

The average tenure post Bruce is 5 months

I think the Chelsea players Slutsky brought in have been the biggest handicap this season. And getting Hernandez back will obviously help, we haven't even regularly had Bowen fully healthy in the last few months.

OK the stats don't lie but I have this theory that Slutsky just "did a Keegan" and told them to go all out and attack, there is more method to Adkins' madness.. and although I don't know what it is exactly, I think it's connected to using your hands to shape things during press conferences and all pulling in the same direction

If Adkins is the answer, I'm no entirely sure what the question may have been.

He has to stay in the short term but hopefully we'll have a proper manager in place days after the end of this season.

Oh, I'm forgetting that we're run by idiots and invisible lickspittles.

As you were then.

poor statisticking, mr bob. it's called cherry picking. yes we won 4 of slutsky's first 15, but you conveniently ignored the fact that we won none of this next seven. also, the difference between 16 and 14 points from 15 is statistically irrelevant.

so:

16 games in

Under Slutsky

Played 16, Won 4, Drawn 4, Lost 8. Scored 28 Conceded 30, goal difference -2.

1.0 points per game, 33.3% of available points, 25% win ratio.

Scored 1.75 goals per game, conceded 1.88 goals per game. -0.13 gpg difference.

Under Adkins

Played 16, Won 4, Drawn 5, Lost 7. Scored 16 Conceded 19, goal difference -3.

1.06 points per game, 35.4% of available points, 25% win ratio.

Scored 1.0 goals per game, conceded 1.19 goals per game. -0.19 gpg difference.

Slutskys full 20 game stats still outshine Adkins. I did it this way as last time someone complained it was unfair that Slutsky had twice the amount of games.
