https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/southampton-ready-sack-mauricio-pellegrino-12132489 Mirror suggesting that Saints are ready to sack Mauricio in the summer even if we stay up. Based on supposition, but reasonable supposition I suppose. I have always considered that they might not sack him, but I know I'm in the minority. Something needs to be done as a large chunk of the season has gone by without any sign that he knows how to get the best from a perfectly reasonable team. Either Saints keep him and give him the players that will do well under him because they accept that the problem isn't only him or he is sacked because it is acknowledged that he doesn't suit us and/or the EPL.
I really don't get why we have decided to leave him in charge for so long, its been obvious for months he is out of his depth. I still believe if we were to replace him after Saturday (win lose or draw) then we could get someone in who would be more than capable of getting us at least 10-12 points which would be enough to stay up. I think the squad although not as good as some think is more than good enough to be clear of relegation come May, unfortunately we are being dragged into trouble by a manger that is not up to it and a board with their heads in the sand.
Agreed, i actually learned a lesson after Koeman went through that bad spell, in terms of giving managers a chance. I had a bit of a grumble on here when he went 11 without a win. But even with my most positive hat on, I cannot fathom what the board are thinking keeping this idiot in charge. Since day one he hasn’t had a clue how to get the best out of this side
One of the managers they claim are on our radar is Jokanovic, of Fulham. Why would we want a manager who has only picked up 33 from a possible 39 points, since being beaten by Sunderland, December 16th? I mean, beaten by Sunderland!!! No way would our board be interested in him. He has a proven record in English football, albeit in the Championship, and we only seem to go for unknown quantities, with little or no English football experience, just to prove how innovative and forward thinking we are.
Kick-off 15:00 GMT Saturday 10th March 2018 Newcastle United v Southampton Referee: Andre Marriner Assistants: Scott Ledger, Richard West Fourth official: Kevin Friend
Very hard to disagree with anything you've said, but I'm really struggling to think who we could parachute in to take the job. Clearly the last 2 appointments haven't worked out, so the whole recruitment strategy for the top job has got to be questioned? The last thing we need is to sack MP then wait weeks to appoint another version of the last 2, may be best to wait and restructure / rebuild in summer whatever league we find ourselves in?
I'm guessing there are managers out there but like you say either way its a risk its just trying to judge what risk is more likely to ensure premier survival. If we stick with MP and some how stay up i believe he will be gone in the summer anyway. My number 1 choice to replace him would be AVB. I know he didn't enjoy his time in England before and is unlikely to come back but for me i think he would be an ideal fit for saints if we don't get relegated.
And yet you couldn’t think of anything Les Reed had done wrong earlier! If manager appointments aren’t his responsibility, whose are they?
Right now we could get Silva, Martina, possibly AVB. Possibly Hiddink until the end of the season if we chucked enough cash at it. We won't though.
