A lot depends on Kronke's grip on the purse strings. Whoever comes in has a massive rebuilding job to do. I don't say this tongue in cheek - you need a new GK, CB (ideally 2 of them), LB, DM and CM (a proper and long overdue replacement for Cazorla) and more depth in attacking positions in order to be good enough to compete.

I struggle to accept the position of a number of Arsenal fans that a manager like Simone will waltz in and completely transform your fortunes, as if the problem is Arsene Wenger alone. It is very much a problem of Arsene Wenger and the frankly **** squad he has managed to assemble over the past 3-4 years. Loads of bang-average players with a smattering of class acts. Players like Ozil and Bellerin will seriously up their games under someone like Simone or Allegri, but can you see them picking the likes of Mustafi, Chambers, Xhaka, Ramsey, Welbeck?? Absolutely not.

You're in need of at least £200m investment to sort this mess out and the bottom line is if Kronke won't dig deep, it won't matter in the slightest who you bring in as all of the teams above you have solid managers and superior squads.

Meh, central midfielders definitely because they're ****e. But the rest? Doubt it. Put Wenger in charge of the other five big teams and most of their players would like **** too and people would be saying they'd need a whole new squad as well. Kolasinac IS very good, just never gets picked. Our central defenders, if coached properly can do a job. Mustafi was very good in Valencia.

All I smell here is fear from rival fans about arsenal getting a proper manager.

A new manager and two new midfielders and we should be level with Spurs, Liverpool, Chelsea and United easily enough (as long as united keep Mourinho who is almost as ****). If united get a good manager then their funds would mean they'd be 'City' levels of out of reach. Chelsea - who knows. They don't seem to want to flash the cash any more.

There is always varying levels of quality in a team but it's the managers duty to get them to play well as a team unit. Fergie was a brilliant example of coaching good players into world beaters. His last team was an example of this, he made players like Fletcher into supermen, he got the best out of his players.

Getting back to Arsenal, we need a small rebuild, which happens when a new manager comes in to follow his vision anyway. But quality wise we aren't that much off from most other teams, we need to fix a few areas that Wenger has neglected over the years. We still have some serious quality running through the side, which we will see when the new guy comes in. We aren't seeing it now because Wenger is past it, he doesn't have a clearly defined strategy anymore or know how to get the best from his players. I can't recall the last time he brought the best out of any player, if anything, the majority have declined.

After watching Conte's strategy against City, NO THANKS. No shots for a whole half? No way i want to see that kind of football. I'd rather go out in style than go out doing nothing and hoping to nick a goal. It's even worse when you think of the top quality players they have and Conte has got them playing like a relegation bound team.

He finally makes a change at the 77th minute and brings Giroud on. I suppose if one person can nick a goal then it's Giroud, he was a consistent performer for us and got plenty of important goals.

But seriously, i wouldn't want Conte coming to us if he'd do that. I wonder if it's something crazy happening behind the scene's but it looks like he's losing the plot.

Some bizarre player selections, tactics and substitutions by Conte against City. Having both Giroud and Morata on the bench and then bringing Giroud on the 77th minute and then Morata on the 89th minute, taking off your best player Hazard. He's definitely toast, no chance he'll be Chelsea manager next season. It's almost like he's trying to sabotage his season.

Wenger has to go, that much is clear. But I agree with you that a new manager coming in isn't going to suddenly transform our fortunes and and Arsenal fan who thinks otherwise is being a bit gullible.

Yes there are some things that a new manager could improve on quite quickly, like defensive positioning, marking, tracking runners etc as clearly none of that is being coached atm, but to get the club back to the level we should be at it will take a new CB (or two) a DM and an ACM along with time to integrate them and the existing players into a new philosophy.

I think we need to give the new manager 2-3 seasons personally before we start seeing major improvements.

No one is expecting miracles, but what we want is some sort of improvement, something that should happen if a quality manager comes in. It's embarrassing seeing Wenger not knowing what to do with world class attacking talent anymore, something that he used to excel in. Like I said, I think we could reasonably expect some fairly quick improvements to be made on the defensive side of things. Just the basics really, like tracking runners, positioning, not letting the ball bounce, not passing back to the keeper when he's being pressed etc. These are things that 11-14 year olds are coached in, so it's ****ing unforgivable that our players are making these sorts of mistakes each week.

I'd also expect to see a fairly instant improvement in our overall work rate and commitment. We are soft as **** right through the team atm and that comes down 100% to the manager.

But the longer term issue of getting us challenging again will take 2-3 seasons imo.

I still find this baffling. Mkhitaryan has produced nothing of note in almost 2 years of PL football, there's a reason United were more than happy to see the back of him. Lacazette has only ever excelled in a vastly inferior league and Ozil and Aubameyang, both admittedly insanely talented players, both have well-chronicled attitude/effort problems - underlying the reason Real and Dortmund were likewise not remotely fussed to see them depart.

Your attack is 'world class' only in the existence of Arsenal fans' imaginations. Getting a new manager in isn't necessarily going to magically enable lacazette or mkhitaryan to step it up to PL level, nor solve Ozil's career-long penchant for vanishing for half a dozen games at a time, not fix Aubameyang's fondness of bunking training when things aren't going his way.

You seem to have the most sensible opinion. 2-3 years for the new man to turn it around. But the amount of Arsenal fans expecting an overnight magic trick is baffling.

Agree about the overnight thing, disagree about your assessment of Mkhitaryan, Aubameyang, Lacazette and Ozil. I think with the right coaching and augmenting the team with a proper DM, CB and ACM, then we'll see the best from these players.

It's easy to write them off when the chips are down and yes at the moment they look gash, but that is a reflection of our standing at the moment, not the individual skill of those players.

Is the idea the EPL is somehow vastly superior to al the other leagues. And the Premierleague is where you most prove yourself. This is both arrogant and wrong.
The Bundesliga for example is churning out top quality players on a constant basis - the footballing education there is simply better. If you look at British vs German clubs in Europe over the last 10 years I'm betting they come out the better. (even without the huge wealth the EPL clubs possess)

Again the same with Spain.

Ozil has produced the goods for Madrid in Europe and the League.
Also for or Germany winning both a World Cup and European Championship.
That's the HIGHEST level where stress levels are FAR beyond what they are playing for a club in the EPL.

Yep agree 100% . Someone like Anchelotti or Simeone would get us significantly higher up the table with this same squad.
