I think he did ok by us. Although a bit blunt & probably selfish, it's Saints who lost out, massively! And I mean MASSIVELY.
That's a great price for Jrod all things considered and the best move for all parties including him. Should be a fair whack off the wage bill too. Genuinely hope it works out for him and he gets back to a bit of form, though not sure WBA is the best club for him.
Last season showed us we need a parting of the ways. That fee seems fair. Good luck to him. He'll need it if his dad is still on twitter come September.
All prices are going to be stupid this season. Jay may regain some form if given more game time...coming on occasionally under Puel did him no favours...then that price for a striker may look a bargain. However, at the moment, it's a good price for a striker that we don't feel we require.
Can't agree with that....Shane was good under Koeman playing with Mane and Pelle. He brings pace to the team, but I agree that he can't be your leading striker....though even last season he had his moment Mauricio's style may suit him better...we will have to wait and see.
He might, but can you put your hand on your heart and say you'd pay £12m for Jay today? As we stand, that's a bloody good job done by the Board.
Yep. We can't have it both ways. I think we undersold Mane, but that isn't just based on what he has done since Liverpool - it's based on me thinking that, at the point we sold him, we should have got more for him. So I'm not going to sit here and think that in the event that Jay does get back to his best, WBA have actually got themselves a good. Based on the here and now, £12m (possibly rising to £14m or £15m) is way above what I think he is worth and a cracking deal for the club. (And actually, I'm hoping he does return to being a £20m+ player)
I presume that, having extended the contracts of Jack and Sam, the next announcement today will be Bednarek.
These two have been done really early, I'm half expecting that Matt Targett/McQueens conrtact extensions to be announced.
He had about the total of one good season, he plays as a striker and needed to score more goals. I do appreciate other stuff he does, but I expect more from his position. My point also is about £12m when we paid it was more like £20m now, and he was way overpriced for what effect he actually had/has.
Yeah we overpaid for Long at the time, as much as I like him as a player he was never a £12m player at that time. It's not my money and it was when we had received about £100m in fees so I'm not going to lose any sleep over it, I usually find it odd when fans get bothered about fees, judge a player on how he performs for the club regardless of what his old club valued him at. There have been a few we have overpaid for in terms of how they have performed here, Long being one of them
