Yes it does, you just have to look harder to find them, and have a better scouting system which for the most part we have.

What you're suggesting is that we shop in different shops, and -- rather than sign extremely highly rated players who were on the radar of top teams, as we were doing previous -- gamble on lesser-known items.

Because everyone has extremely good scouting systems now. There just aren't that many under-the-radar players anymore.

People going on about not selling both Bertrand and Van Dijk. We can only maybe stop Van Dijk going. As I said a few weeks ago Bertrand is all but gone. Bertrand wants to move to a bigger club and with City wanting him. He gone.

They are obviously willing to outlay that gamble.
Whereas we aren't.
They are a club of similar size, they will naturally attract players of quality because of their location.
Saints will not spend 30 mill on a player and the outlay of wages too boot it's too much for us to spend, even with 100 mill or so coming in to the club.

I'm not really disagreeing mate to be honest, just playing devils advocate <ok>

Just pointing out that we COULD spend £30m and pay 100k if we wanted to, but we choose not to. Any PL side could really.

I would think we might break our record again this Summer though.

Less worried about Bertrand - we have two capable left backs (though always room for improvement.
As for Virgil, sorry but the bloke is now well and truly in my Lovren, Lallana and Koeman pile. Shame, I thought he was different but I guess most are prats.

I feel a bit sick in my mouth about both of them. Super rich, ultra priviledged. One staring out the window of his private jet the other staring out the window of his super yacht. Has helped me heaps with my 'hero issues'. Some people go to work and save sick children or rescue people in trouble. If these two go I honestly wont be bothered. The 1% do nothing for me.

Bertrand wants to go to a bigger team, how can a new manager sort that out?

By planting a small explosive device in the back of his knee. If he goes 5 miles outside of the Southampton area it detonates, thus ending his dreams of skippering an even bigger boat.

I don't get it Beefy. How can we stop one but not the other. Was VVD under duress with his Liverpool move or is his heart already there and anything else just wouldnt be the same?

Just what I have been told.

I see Juve are reportedly interested in Cedric, and are "preparing a £15m offer" whatever that means, £15m is surely too little, but what would we think would potentially be enough if there is any truth in the story? I believe he only has 2 more years on his deal so if he is not interested in signing a new one then this summer might be the time the club look to cash in, obviously could change if VVD and Bertrand leave as i highly doubt they will want to have 3 of the starting back 4 all leaving the same year.

He's contracted until 2020. He was one of the ones who signed a new contract last summer.

If Cedric continues to improve as he has so far for us, then next season could be the year where he seriously stands out a top class RB. And in that instance we absolutely do not want him only having 12 months left on his contract (if that is correct). Sell him that summer if the big boys come in, fine - but make sure we've got him to sign a longer contract first. (And if we do tie him now, then I could see us getting a lot more for him next summer than this summer).

EDIT - But if Whiteley is correct, panic over!

Oh, wasn't aware of that, just went off his Wiki page that says he signed a 4 year deal initially in 2015. That changes things somewhat, but it is Juve after all and if there is genuine interest on their part then it may be difficult to keep hold of Cedric

Surely we would want more than £15m. Also would it really be sensible to let 3 of our back 4 go at once especially as we are having a quiet summer.....
