Isn't Mary's whole schtick that she got pregnant without having sex? I always took that to mean that it was literally supposed to have happened that way.

You hit the nail on the head. Some things were "reactions" to the time and have to be taken on context.

Religion sees marriage as confirmed when consummation takes place. Prior to Islam, and in UK even after, engagements were done between powerful families for land and wealth. So English princesses were betrothed to French kings/princes from birth or while infants.

Prior to Islam many girls were being married and had sex with. Islam put a stop to this and said no sex before puberty. This was laughed at at the time as silly by non Muslims

Margaret Beaufort was on her third marriage by the time she was 15 I'm pretty sure. Different times different attitudes different levels of acceptability. Mostly **** all to do with anything. <laugh>

There are a few examples.

Think child marriages were banned in the British empire in 1891.

That's a few centuries after Islam banned it

Incidentally the bill in 1891 changed the age of consent from 10 to 12

I'm not really talking about a community finding it's voice, though. I think that voice has always been there. Everybody feels threatened, not just the Muslim community. I'm truly sorry to hear about the attacks going up on Muslim women and others. Attacks are also going up on innocent kids being blown up at a music concert and people being mowed down by vans. Which is why, I'm saying we are all in this together, no special priviliges for anybody. An attack on anybody in this country, is an attack on everybody. Removing the us and them mentality should be the way forward.

Somebody said we need people with no real left or right wing alliance to sort this mess out. I agree with that. It will continue to get worse unless something is changed. I feel the only real way though is stop the provocation on both sides. They was a big march on the weekend supporting wronguns, people waving big hezbollah flags. That's a terrorist organisation, doesn't help after there's just been 3 terrorist attacks in the country, does it?

The government need to stop the bombing in Syria and they need to stop allowing so much freedom to hate speech and protests. That should do the trick.

The worst part of all this is that ISIS will be loving the "us against them" situation that is developing. Time for cool and level headed thinking at all levels within England.

The son, of the van hire company owner, that was used in the Finsbury Park attack, has put on Facebook that it's a shame they don't hire out tanks. There's loads of calls for him to be arrested.
