You're 100% right mate; the average citizen definitely should carry on as before, in that they shouldn't be afraid to leave their home, and shouldn't abuse innocent Muslims just because of the actions of a crazed extremist. The authorities, however, certainly do have a responsibility not to continue exactly as before, and instead to take proactive decisions to improve the lives of their citizens. That was the distinction I was drawing (which probably wasn't made clear enough in my original post).

One of my favourite commentators on the issues in Islam (and religion in general) is Sam Harris, who is always rational, articulate and fair in my opinion. Would recommend anyone to check out his work if they're unfamiliar with it.

I know the vast majority of Muslims are law abiding citizens but you can't get away from the fact that Mohammed was a ****ing dirty ***** who ****ed an eight year old lassie when the fat slob was in his 40's.
They worship him & folk like that disgust me. <ok>

Can't put the volume on at the moment but will give it a watch later fella.

Personally, and I know people here hate these things being made political but I believe it is. Austerity is a massive enabler for terror at the moment imo. The people we need to protect us and be proactive don't have the resources to protect us. Terroists are attacking a weakened country ultimately. Tories need to toughen up fast and get our police, boarder control and anti terror resources up to scratch so we can be better defended so everybody in society can feel safer. As we know know Islamist extremists are no longer the only problem, far right extremists are now very much a problem. This country needs it's front line bolstering more than ever.

Personally, I'd sack off all religion. It is man made and causes nothing but grief.

Agreed. The government always hark on about how crime is decreasing as a way of defending their cuts, however terrorist incidents are becoming more and more prevalent. This, and this alone, is good enough reason to criticize the government and force them to act accordingly in sorting this mess out.

Good man; he raises some very good points and you can always tell he's speaking from logical and rationality rather than emotion, which tends to be the case with many people on both sides of the debate.

Sadly the political aspect can't be ignored; the cuts to the police and hospitals are going to be felt more deeply as these attacks intensify, which, unfortunately, they inevitably will.

I am a secularist and I believe people should be free to believe whatever they want, but I genuinely think society would be better off if organised religion was treated like alcohol. Make it illegal to expose children to it until they're of an age to make their own decisions, and then if they want to get involved in it then it's their own conscious decision.

Crime has changed. Old ladies aren't being mugged of handbags as much, people aren't burgling houses as much. It's high risk low reward. But debit cards are being cloned like nobodies bussiness, slavery is out of control but they don't need those stats to paint the picture they want. Yes petty theft and out dated crimes are on the drop and they'll show that off, but terror, electronic fraud, slavery and sex crime is on the rise and our frontline services can't cope.

To be fair Margaret Beaufort was 7. Can't judge things that historic on today's laws and attitudes. We'd could spend the rest of our lives listing such instances. Mary was said to be between 10 and 14 when she obviously had sex.

Nature says when human being is sexually mature. Thankfully the world has evolved in it's attitudes to children and have changed to protect the innocent mind even if the body is ready. But primitive attitudes are exactly that, primitive. The sensible thing to do would be accept these attitudes and ways as something from the past instead of using it as wet bog roll in a fight to fracture society.

Daft direction to drag the thread imo. It's irrelevant.
