He did a photo shoot for me once, mid 90's, seemed a decent bloke.

I was in a pub in Woodford Green / Chingford one Saturday night many moons ago and he walked in in his full Man Yoo blazer kit, having just got back from a match at OT. He half knew one of my mates and stopped for a few minutes chatting before heading off to meet his group. Seemed a nice enough bloke to be honest.

I always suspected that Andy Andrew Cole was a massive ****er, so with Sheringham's supposed hatred of him it suggested he was alright.

Not convinced at all that a manager of repute will end up here.

Ehab wasn't capable of managing it a year ago when Coleman, Martinez and Zola all apparently turned it down. Settled on Phelan because that's all that was left, and we were Premier League then.

He got lucky with Silva as he was pushy enough to keep trying and Ehab had nowhere else to go.

I don't see how being in the Championship now means that a corker is coming in. We're weaker than when the others rejected us.

A lot has changed since we were able to entice Steve Bruce here and I think the reputation of the owners has plummeted further since then. If McLaren is a possibility, with his Hull links and some good successes a few years ago, then I think that's about the absolute best we can do.

To achieve a really exciting appointment will require a significant change of approach from the owners I think, or some skilled and sustained lying.

To be fair, Coleman is hard to pry away from the Wales job, Martinez was apparently close but was offered the Belgium job... and the least said about Zola the better.

Now the question should be, did those said managers apply for the job once Bruce left or did we target them? If the latter then I cant see why we wont do that again. If its the former then I imagine a fair few foreign managers will apply for the job.

The Championship is getting a wider audience nowadays. Foreign managers know its a foot in the door to the big league, and what better team to go for than one thats favourite to go straight back up.

Basically, if you have any confidence in yourself as a manager, get a Championship job and get them promoted, then your on your way.

This time last year Coleman, Zola and others were being offered a job by a bloke who was trying to sell the club and refusing to invest in players. Those circumstances are surely not the same this summer - not perfect perhaps, but also not the same.

So no excuse now then, fully focused. Let's see what he pulls out the hat.

Skilled and sustained lying it is then!
