Might pop to Papas and get the family meal deal great value. I'll probably pick something up for the wife and kids while I'm there
Sorry to say this Carlisle Tiger but I went to Carlisle a few times over the years to watch City and was not overley impressed with the area, in fact after the match we went to Penrith for a night out before heading home. Brunton Park was not all that inspiring in the 1960's in fact most of the guys in the ground were pissing up against a wall down an embankment at half time, this was when we had the South Stand built and new floodlights, maybe I was being snobbish, but I could never take to Carlisle, it just seemed so dire, but there again we just went straight to the stadium and not far beyond, so maybe an unfair assessment.
A couple of weeks ago, I had the nicest Fish and Chips I've had for a long while from a takeaway just near the bus station in Filey. I got the small fish and chips special for £3. The fish was about as long as a regular polystyrene tray, but was about 3 inches thick and was absolutely beautiful. The whole fish must have been a bloody whopper if this was just a section. I am actually slavering thinking about it. Much better value than the rip off brigade at Bridlington. In Hull, East Park Chippy is the best but the queues are worse than getting into the KCOM.
Anyone here have the balls to order a solo patty to eat, there and then, whilst they wait for their fish to be cooked? I never have. Usually seems to be 'builder' types who do though.
Ohhh yes guilty as charged. I have no problem doing that. Just shout out Can ya put me a large cod in and a pattie to eat now ... Get in.
First it's mi gravy .. now it's Cod whatever next? Iv'e always preferred Cod. Leave the thread quietly
Sorry to have to tell you but most if the haddock served in UK chippies is not of UK origin. It's mainly Icelandic, Norwegian or Russian- frozen on board.
Had a battered sausage while waiting for three large haddock last week. I didn't actually order it though, it was a freebie, as they were just closing.
They are alright but Ingham's in Filey are better (and dearer). RIP off Brid? 149, brilliant fish and chips and are reasonable, Jack's has always been excellent value as has Oggy's. Expect to pay over the odds around the harbour as those are geared to visitors not locals.
this thread is ****ing torture. you just can't get decent fish and chips around here. we'll need to head off somewhere like Aldeburgh or Southwold on Friday.
On Friday I'll be having a nice piece of steak, with a rub of garlic. Mrs Two will once again register her disdain. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
Too true! We'll be having battered flathead and chips with chicken salt at Manly for Good Friday. It's a pale imitation of a large haddock large mushy peas and chips from Frydays I took my son to Frydays last year when we were back and he asked for 6 calamari rings with his chips. The bloke had no response
A nice thin tail-end of Cod is just right; Haddock is too dry for my tastes. Thick Cod is dreadful. Skate is my favourite, followed by Plaice on the bone - roes in! All fish fried in peppered flour only, none of this thick batter nonsense. Chips not too thick or too thin, but well dried before first fry (before fish), then one more fry as plating up. Pickled onion vinegar, light salt on a few chips, bread and butter (crustless). Runny mushy peas with just a small amount of Piccalilli alongside (snaffle the crunchy cauliflower). Best chippy in the world - just gone to bed, bloody excellent she is!! Other than that I'll take em as they come - with a mug of tea. Easy innit!
I recently went for the saveloy option (oo er missus) while waiting in the queue at Grovehill Fisheries in Beverley. I was not disappointed. I tried pattie and chips, but it's too much potato for me, even for somebody of Irish descent. Haddock, chips, peas and a brew. No time for bread, there's nothing left to put in said bread. My mate goes for curry sauce. I still maintain that it shouldn't be called that, I've never had a curry that tastes like curry sauce. Now the Currywurst in Berlin, that's a curry sauce that belongs on a sausage. A big sausage. A big, German sausage. Penis.
This is just up the road... pint of Tetleys to go with it. yum yum http://www.oldeyorkefishandchips.com/gallery/
