I'd say that long-term Abel has been a much better player than Long was.

We could've had Deeney for £10m

Not really the point of this thread but I don't agree at all. Abel is massively inconsistent and everyone seems to forget this when he's on a good spell. Long has been playing pretty regularly at a top PL side the whole time since he left us and that's because he's a bloody good player.

It was Longs partnership with Jelavic that was immense. With Longs pace we could hit teams on the break particularly away from Home - his running destroyed Sunderland at the Stafium of Light.

We looked dangerous in attack and since his departure we have always looked a bit toothless in attack. Game to goal ratio doesn't really tell the whole story.

Yeah, I can't believe anyone doesn't think he was good for us. That partnership was one of the best we've ever had and it still annoys me that it only lasted 6 months. Imagine if they'd been eligible for the cup final.

With strikers it's not just goals, but the ability to get the team up the pitch. Jelavic's work rate and hold up play, as well as Long's pace, caused so many problems for teams. They were a great partnership but even one of them alone was bloody good, as we saw in our reliance on Jelavic in 2014/15 when Long had gone. Too often City end up with no proper strikers. Hernandez is a goalscorer, but he'd get a lot more chances to do that if he was playing alongside someone who makes loads of runs in behind or holds it up well.

Silva's words at the press conference appear to mark as "bollocks" the suggestions that Jake wasn't part of his plans, the money was needed so we'll be able to fill other positions & we have adequate cover in that area.

His words appear to suggest we seized the opportunity to cash in on one of our better assets, as selling clubs do.

What's he said? Has anyone got a transcript / direct quotes?

Flashback Friday..

That was during his off-field issues, and we don't know if he was carrying a knock or what there. What we do know is it's completely uncharacteristic of Livermore to not chase everything.

He was another one of our 'strikers' that never scored enough goals.

Is the Friday lunchtime cut off for transfer registrations just relevant for 3pm Saturday kick offs or is it all weekend matches?
