Normally 'selling club' refers to a club that regularly sells off its biggest assets, or a club which regularly manages to buy low and sell high and we've been neither of those under the Allams. The concern with many, is that this is no longer the case, but we'll find out in under two weeks.
Great deal for Jake, 4.5 year deal on probably over £40k a year. I can see why he'd have jumped at it
The bold bit is really all that matters here. People always get excited when we sell someone for big money. I remember when we sold Shane Long everyone was giddy because 'we' were getting £12m. But the fact is you have to replace these players, and getting someone just as good to replace them tends to cost just as much. We spent almost all of that fee on Hernandez which turned out awfully for that first year. If we do sign someone to replace Jake it'll be a gamble and most of our gambles don't really pay off, but people are always excited at first and think we've got a great deal. Remember Mbokani was considered really good after his first couple of games. We can't really criticise the club for accepting the offer, because it seems to be the way football works that if a player wants to go they end up going. Maybe it's because clubs know they won't be as committed if forced to stay. Ehab did say something to that effect the other day, and it certainly gave the impression that he knew there were some who did want to go. The obvious way this could have been avoided lies in what has already been done. Livermore and everyone else have always seemed happy here. But Diame openly stated the reason he left was that he came back after pre-season training and we barely had a squad. **** this he thought, I'm off. Livermore and others will have thought the same. Snodgrass going is looking more and more likely, but again I don't know what the club can do about it at this point apart from holding out for as much money as possible. Maybe if they sat any want-away players down and showed them that we're really going to seriously strengthen the squad starting now then they'd want to stay. That's assuming that's what they are going to do, which we'll find out in the next couple of weeks.
I'd say that long-term Abel has been a much better player than Long was. We could've had Deeney for £10m
If silva wanted to keep livermore i doubt he would have got sold any player that is sold now will be because silva does not need them does not matter wether we are a selling club or not the important part is that silva is able to bring in the players he requires to keep us up which is what he was brought here to do.
So you're proposing they're going to fork out top dollar for a player having let go a player who has barely featured, only to trial him in an essentially new position?
Even if we were well ran, I'm not sure I would have offered him a deal for that long. I don't think we've consistently seen the best of him since his first year with us.
