Today's 'Today' program, on Radio 4, is curated by the whole City of Hull, on the eve of becoming UK City of Culture 2017.
AP just being inyerviewed, talking about Hull FC, Rugby League and City - he feels it's likely City won't be sold until season's end, as no-one can arrive at a value (survival vs. relegation).
Sandy Toksvig just made a claim on QI that I can't believe. Does anyone know of someone that can truthfully make the same claim? She reckons that she has never farted in her life. It's nearly as daft as claiming farts aren't funny, and nobody knows why. After someone at a place I was working at found a figure about how often the average person farted, a chart was produced to record how often people there farted. There were reasonably strict rules about what counted as one fart, rather than a series of little 'pops', but the lasses won by a long chalk and nobody scored zero.
I think we know why but Ehab can't even get it right in bed. Jail for the taunted strangler The former fiance of a wealthy heiress was jailed for eight-and-a-half years yesterday for strangling her after she taunted him during sex. George Holtby, 38, killed Suzy Healey, 39, as they lay in bed for goading him about how she had slept with another man. A jury at Hull Crown Court cleared Holtby of murder but found him guilty of manslaughter 'by reason of provocation' after accepting his claim that he 'snapped' in a jealous rage. Miss Healey and Holtby had become engaged halfway through an 'on-off' nine-month relationship. He moved in to her magnificent £1.9million manor house, Ellerker Hall, near Hull, and they even tried for a baby together. But the heiress, who had a drink problem and suffered from depression, became annoyed with Holtby after he was made redundant and tried to take control of the running of her estate. She eventually threw him out. They remained friendly, but Holtby lost his temper with fatal consequences when she taunted him about having sex with old flame Ehab Allam. Holtby said she asked him to make love to her and commented 'make a better job than Ehab did'. In court yesterday Judge Mr Justice Wilkie said he regarded the level of provocation from Miss Healey as 'low'. Holtby, who has already spent ten months on remand, will be released after three years and five months because he has to serve only half his sentence behind bars. Last night the family of Miss Healey were said by police to be 'disappointed' at both the verdict and the sentence. In a statement, they added: 'Suzy was very special and to those who knew her well, was a force for good, always cheerful and smiling.' Her mother, sister and other family members had sat through the trial. But her father Malcolm Healey, who along with his brother Eddie is worth an estimated £1.9billion, stayed away from court. He is said to be obsessively private. Detective Chief Inspector Sharon Fielding said Holtby resorted to killing Miss Healey when he realised 'everything was slipping away from him'. She added: 'George Holtby has taken the life of somebody he professed to care about and for that he is going to prison where he belongs.' Here the Daily Mail looks at Suzy Healey's eccentric life and the doomed love affair that led to her killing. Really irritates me attitudes like this. His player cheats, and when it's criticised he wants the person making fun of it to be punished? **** that. How about tell your player to stop diving cos it's killing the game? When he laughed in Chico Flores' face for diving in front of him I thought that was brilliant. Players cheating like this seem to hate being pulled up and humiliated for it.
