The board is too posh. http://morethanburnttoast.blogspot.co.uk/2008/02/pikelet-or-crumpet.html "What's the difference between a crumpet and pikelet? A good question, because there isn't really a difference in flavour. Crumpets and pikelets are both raised bread products made with yeast, and they're both baked on a griddle (although a frying pan works just as well). If there is a difference "Proper" crumpets are thick and usually cooked in a circular mould with a top covered in little open bubbles. When toasted and buttered, the melted butter oozes into these holes, producing a crispy, buttery honeycomb with a crunchy exterior. A pikelet is usually flatter and less regularly shaped as you simply spoon a small amount of batter out rather than filling up a mould.... quicker to prepare but still all the little wells to hold the the lovely melted butter. The verdict...they both taste delicious."
Tickles sat behind me at the KC for years, only I didn't know it was him until he after he'd died. Funny really, as I'd had lots of meetings with him at the club and outside when he was trying to get the different fan groups to work together, but he never let on.
Totally disagree.... It's definately pikelets..... I have even started the process of getting the Australian supermarkets to rename their "crumpets" to the proper "pikelets", and get rid of their square version and concentrate on proper shapes that allow the melted butter to drip down your face and clothes as they were designed to. (Although when I rang them to initiate the name change, they did reply " **** off dickhead" and put the phone down. Which just said to me they know I'm right but are just trying to slow the inevitable wind of change. Merry Christmas all, it's now Christmas Eve here.
I've braved the weather too, to stand a lighted tree thing up (and put some blocks on it to avoid going outside again) Storm Barbara has truly wreaked havoc I assume there will be a documentary made of our brave efforts before long?
A while back I thought it was him, then some of the stuff he posted made me think it wasn't, but then Ron's death and Tickles stopping posting sealed it.
Ok I'll own up. Earlier, when reading 'Crumpetgate', I was surprised everyone was saying 'Crumpet' as I've always called them 'Pikelets' because that's what me Dad called them. So like you I Googled and in fact, the ones we're talking about 'the fat ones' are indeed Crumpets and Pikelets are flatter and shaped like anything you like. Pikelets often have fruit in them
A fitting epitaph to him. I enjoyed his posts on here tbh, and to find out he was who he was, just kinda sealed. I shall be raising a drink to his memory once the in laws all **** off tonight. One of a kind he was.
Genuinely never heard of pikelets in this context. At first I thought "who the **** would put cheese and marmite on a grilled baby predatory fish ffs? northern wierdos".
