Hull City can confirm that, with immediate effect, CONMEBOL, the South American Football Confederation, has suspended Óscar Zambrano for breaching the anti-doping rules set out in Articles 6 and 7 of the CONMEBOL Anti-Doping Regulations.

Zambrano and his defence will use their right to appeal this decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

The Club is not in a position to provide further information at this time.

All still seems very unclear to me. Length of ban obviously. But also surely CONMEBOL can't ban him from playing for us in English competitions, so could this actually just mean he's banned from internationals?

I'm sure it was reported previously that it was a FIFA investigation which could see him banned from playing for us. Could that still be a separate process?

Either way, it's bizarre that this comes out with so little clarity.

I don't think that a ban makes it suddenly a bad signing. We knew the investigation was ongoing, that he could be banned at some point and that the club had made plans for it, including supposedly having clauses such that they can't lose out from it, and having a wealth of midfielders in the squad who can play his role.

When one federation bans a player, I'm pretty sure it's automatically applied everywhere else.

it was inevitable he was going to get banned, his test was positive
it all depends on the mitigation etc, but id be very very surprised if the ban is over turned, just the time reduced

at best, he will be back for start of next season

If it’s really long, hopefully the loan has a clause so we don’t look silly shelling out for a player in the summer that can’t even play. Have a feeling this one will be similar to the Giles deal though.

Based on recent comments on here, by the time he’s available again we probably won’t have Walter as manager or maybe even Acun as owner. Crazy.

I’m sure acun said if he’s banned we don’t have to buy him and the club is protected
