I'm not so sure, when we were promoted he was no PL striker and I still don't think he is. During our 3 year run in the PL his chances would have been limited and I think he would have been moved on.
I would contend he would have been bang average for us and played very little.

Bah!

The main reason for his poor PL season is because he was always in trouble with the law, they needed to build more pubs in Beccles so they could have been added to his banning list! Even a new-born child failed to settle him!

Interesting read on the goals of our academy, from the recent Academy blog on the official site:

"By 2022 we aim to have 10% of league minutes played by Academy graduates.

Why 2022? The Academy first achieved Category One Status in 2012, and therefore was able to extend its player recruitment outside of the previous 1.5 hour rule. An Academy cycle takes 10 years, from bringing a player in aged nine to 12, and that player being ready to break into the first team.

Why 10%? In 2014-15, the average minutes played by Academy graduates for a Premier League club was 8%. Two clubs achieved over 20%, but several clubs also had 0% of minutes played. Norwich City had 0.01% of minutes played in 2012-13 (a substitute appearance by Chris Martin), and this number has steadily grown over the past four years. In 2013-14 it was 0.43%, 2014-15 was 0.85% and last season, due to Declan Rudd’s run in the team, saw Academy graduates play 2.6%.

For 2016-17 we are targeting 4% of league minutes to be played by Academy graduates. This is another steady step forward towards our long-term goal of 10%."

I think we've currently got 4 academy graduates around our first team? Josh, Jacob, Toffolo and Morris. 4% is probably around 25 full games between them this season? Be interesting to see if we hit that.

Good to see the club's intentions outlined. Also interesting to look back through this thread to see how we were all wondering whether Josh and Jacob would make it this year. AN has all but said that they and Maddison have already (ie. not going out on loans). With Canos and Pritchard now added to the picture, suddenly we seem to be very strong on the wings and at AM.

Toffolo has shown himself to have the potential to provide back-up to Olsson (and Brady, so far) and Thompson is showing potential behind Tettey as well. With Nelson Oliveira now looking possible, we seem to be going into this season in good shape with a solid start in the first 4 fixtures. Another striker after Oliveira would seal the window nicely.

Maddison scored for Aberdeen

From the equivalent of the Eastern Evening News in NE Scotland - "Hayes was particularly impressed by 19-year-old Maddison’s contribution and said: “James adds a great deal to the team. We see him in training all week and he is a level above what I have seen so far in Scottish football."
Maddison, who joined the Dons on deadline day last month in a loan deal from Norwich until January, was thrilled to score his first goal in Scottish football.
He said: “I really enjoyed that. We worked really hard all week after a disappointing draw with Caley Thistle last Saturday.

Just been reading a Dons forum:

“He's too good for us”

“Never going to be able to keep him after January!”

“Maddison looks great: intelligent, comfortable on the ball, good technique, good delivery from set pieces.”

“He always wants to go forward. A pleasure to watch.”

“I think Maddison was terrific -- lots of effort. Without him on the pitch today I think we'd have had a draw.”

You get the gist. I think they like him! <ok>

And hopefully getting plenty of game time at a (slightly) higher level than last season. Will he be ready for our 1st team in January? I would hope to see him given game time.

Well they can't have him. Lets get him back in January and get rid of Naismith for whatever we can get for him.

Maddison's goal for those interested. Smart sharp turn and shot. Keeper should do better really but a good hit nonetheless
