Over 50% of immigrants last year were from outside the EU

Also Norway and Switzerland have shown what happens when you go for a trade deal with the EU - freedom of movement being a pre requisite

So we'll end up with what we have now anyway

And they were supposedly being controlled by France as part of our EU agreement too.

The fact the leaving doesn't change immigration makes the whole thing a joke. With how close the voting was, there is no way leave would have won if that had been made clear from the start.

I thought the French / UK border was an agreement outside of the EU, brought about because it suits France too. The non-EU controls are pretty much ours to do as we please with, just few have done anything since Labour opened the gates, which they've sinced admitted was a **** up done to spite the tory's.

France had nothing to do with our immigration decisions. I'm talking about legal immigration ffs

The bullshit spun by Leave ignored the basic facts for a reason. The fact that remain were so poor at correcting them is shameful. However people should have done their own research and not just lazily think immigration- yeah that's reason enough to sack it off <doh>

This is what happens when you give an ignorant populous such a huge and complex decision to vote on. Cameron is a complete **** for making the promise

The UK is in a mess because it depends too much on the financial industry i.e. house prices

The UK has just voted to kill off even more of the economy so we're even more dependent on bankers now than yesterday

There are reasons for this, reasons for that, people who voted for this, people who who thought the other, but please get real everyone - there's a reason the working class vote in swathes across the North and the Midlands wanted Brexit, and it isn't anything to do with the economy, sovereignty, climate change or bent cucumbers. Where Labour goes from here, God knows. I voted for Burnham last time, but even with him I cannot see what Labour can, and indeed should do to attract such people.

But once again, Murdoch rules. Meh.

Money saved for public services? For the NHS- now Farage says that was a mistake.
Scotland may break off? Not a problem to worry about. When the SNP is the government ?
The EU will make life difficult to discourage copycats? Scaremongering !!

The shame is that many people did fall for the convincing lies of the brexiteers: and ignored the warnings dismissed so vocally as scaremongering. Those people are expressing regrets saying they didn't realise the implications of their vote.

When there is something as important as this, shouldn't there be a duty on our politicians to keep to the truth and to make sure that the electorate understand the issues?

I don't think anything, I didn't vote because I don't know enough about it. Only reason I keep commenting is because the [HASHTAG]#racism[/HASHTAG] card keeps getting played which is a cop out.

As I said earlier, is it coincidental that wealthier areas voted remain and less wealthy went with leave?

Leaving could truly **** me over with my mortgage and need to move but I was more leave than remain purely because I the remain campaigners appeared to be spinning more bullshit then the others. Piss poor effort from then really, going from "we know nothing" to "we're doomed if we leave" in a matter of days!

Saw on Sky News before a woman from South Wales. She was explaining why she voted out, even though the EU pumps billions into South Wales, and to do so she showed a sculpture of a dragon (very nice too) funded by the EU, but the local council, because of austerity cuts, can't keep the public toilets open. Where do you begin with that one? She believes that we shouldn't be sending £350m a week to the EU (!) so that they can build sculptures, and instead keep it to ensure the toilets are open. Love, Westmister isn't even going to give Taffy a sculpture, never mind keep the bloody toilets open.

Richard Dawkins said in an interview that the issues in the referendum were too complex for most of the general population to understand within that tight time frame.

He said he didn't mean to be patronising. I think that he has a point. We did discuss before the vote how some people would just go with their gut/basic instinct: migration means no school places or council housing.

The Welsh didn't even realise that a lot if their income was from the EU. What was the Labour Party doing ? . <doh>

It's not coincidental. More educated people tend to both be better off and to vote remain.

Liverpool voted remain, not because it is rich, because it has seen the UK government leave the city to die and the EU then invest in it.

Also cities with large university populations voted remain more.

It's a correlation between understanding the issue and voting remain. On the other hand the reasons given by people who voted leave are either lies or misunderstandings.
 
By the way, what IS the problem with the Poles? Every one that I know of works and pays taxes. My nephew is in Cairns atm in the hotel trade with a Polish girl he met back in Liverpool. She works like a ****ing Trojan and always has. Ironically, as I said further up the thread about the carvery I went to with my daughter for father's day to, and there was her stepdad, a taxi driver. Almost immediately, when we talked about the vote, he got onto immigration. "And what about the Poles taking our jobs?". 'What Pole has taken your job?' 'None, but there's loads on the building sites, and they're taking all the casual work'. His brother, who I know works on the lump and pays no taxes couldn't get a job on a housing project here because OFFICIAL, on-the-books Poles and suchlike are doing the job (it was the council who insisted on official labour as a condition of planning permission). Oh, and being self-employed taxi drivers neither he nor my ex-father-in-law who was there too, pay hardly anything in taxes - a boast they'll openly tell you.

And I'm going to pay their pension, and so were the tax-paying, above board Poles. My maths tells me I'll soon be paying them more towards them.
