In another life I lived in the south of France and worked in security.
I came into contact with the local police in Nice, Cannes, etc and became friends with some.
We'd be in a bar and some local gangster/boss would come over, they'd shake hands and have a bit crack.
When they'd gone I'd ask why they didn't arrest them as they obviously knew he was a gang boss.
"If we jail a gang boss, who has respect and keeps control, he'll be replaced by some hothead making his name. In this way they know we're watching them and will disrupt their operations as well as taking out gang members who overstep the mark."
And that was how they kept things stable.
Trump thinks taking out elderly Iranian, and respected leaders, will destroy the regime ...
... what it will actually do is install more radical people who have to win the loyalty of the other madmen.
As soon as Trump kills one another will pop up like an Iranian Whack-a-Mole.

IMO that's the same scenario with Saddam Hussain, everyone knew he was a complete knacker but he held everyone in check. Same with Gaddiffi

I quite liked Quo. Can always remember them miming at the opening of the SOL and then I always listened to one of their songs when She-Ra was in charge of those up the road

With a bigger grievance and indirect revenge in multiple ways.
This situation is very sad with very few positives.
However there are always things to admire, even in the most difficult of situations.
For me the best thing is the more regular appearances of Gary O'Donoghue ...

I saw them live at Temple Park Leisure Centre when I was a teenager. That was a brilliant night out!
Similar thing in Thailand, was in Koh Samuui and went drinking with a lad who owned a bar there. Took us to the places where the locals drink.
Local police chief was chatting to the local gang leader and the lad we were with said pretty much the same thing.
There's a balance to these things, Trump is too much of an egomaniac to care. Especially if ihes been asked to do something by Netanyahu.
The other side of the coin to that scenario is advocating oppression and violence against the people of Libya and Iraq, i know where you are coming from but it doesn’t feel right to me supporting a autocratic regime
I don't think anyone is advocating oppression and that was not the point I was making. In this day and age, no one should be oppressed and told what to say or do but there are a number of countries in the world who do that. My point was that by removing the likes of Gadaffi or Saddam Hussain created more problems within that country.
And this is in no way a dig at you for your beliefs but do you think that since those 2 were removed, are the people in Libya and Iraq more free than they were? For me it's one of those damned if you do, damned if you don't scenarios
Totally agree with what you say marra,it’s definitely a volatile and unpredictable environment,as for the question of freedom, it just confirms what I’ve always thought that democracy doesn’t sit well in the majority of the Middle East

If Trump thinks bombing Iran without putting any boots on the ground , he is deluded. One of the main reason for bombing the hell of Iran, which should have occurred years ago imo by other presidents who have been negligent, is to deflect the problems Trump has building up at home the Epstein flies being one of a dozen or so. Trump is, much like Starmer, a dead man walking. He just ,unlike Starmer, doesn't realise it just yet.
Surely if Iran had actually attacked first, Israel/America would've done exactly what they're doing now ...

How do you work that out then? The non voters included people that couldn't care less either way, those who couldn't figure out what were the (supposed) benefits of either camp, those who were busy working or away on holiday and forgot to, or couldn't be arsed to, organise a postal vote, those who were sick, yada, yada.
I wish we had enacted a stipulation that it would take a majority of the entire electorate to enact leaving the EU, but then again the vote was intended to have only a non-binding, advisory capacity.
It was Cameron who said he would treat the result as binding - yet he also said he would lead the country whatever the result but pissed off instead. The result being that only Conservative MPs had any say in who got to lead our Brexit negotiations, with May eventually winning by default on July 11th 2016 after Andrea Leadsom withdrew ahead of the final (party membership-wide) voting stage.
Things could have been saved by asking the pubic the electorate the question of what they expected from our Brexit, which could have shown if people wanted to remain in a customs union or not.
As it turned out, the main acts of stupidity were May's enacting of Article 50 triggering a 2 yr leaving deadline without having any agreement of what we were heading toward and then repeatedly trying to get the exact same formula past parliament despite it being defeated each time.
Bring us back a simple common Market.
