I understand what you're saying mate, all I can say is try not to worry about it. The UK is a long way from having bombs land on our soil and that includes nuclear ones.

The UK isn't as weak as some would like to make out, or believe. We have the necessary deterrence and defence systems and we also have our fair share of nuclear weapons that that are just that, a deterrence to other people thinking they can launch a 'first strike'. That's all nukes have ever been up to this point and IMO will continue to be. Can you imagine being the 'first' person to use a nuclear weapon in combat... That person literally would go down as the biggest pariah in the history of mankind.

The UK can't and won't just jump straight in, it has to be done right before we declare war. We have to follow the process of diplomacy, sanctions etc but it is telling that Biden has already deployed more troops to Germany. Military action will come but it's thousands of miles away and the UK will never come under threat IMHO.

One last thing I'd like to add. Theirs a reason the great US of A won't go to war without the UK and that's because we are the best. They know it and so do we. Someone said earlier in the thread, we're by far the best trained military in the world, hands down and that, in the world of warfare, goes a hell of a long way when it comes to contemplating going to war against us.

I agree wholeheartedly that British intelligence is the greatest in the world, and I understand it’s very much many stories above the man who Combes his head with a balloon who makes any diplomatic and strategic decisions, I’m sick of seeing that buffoon on my tv, it’s war now which ever way you look at it, it goes one way or another

Yes mate, thankfully he's just the man who is advised by the professionals. I do also think war is inevitable but thankfully it won't be fought anywhere near our shores but, unfortunately more UK troops lives could be lost because of it.

I'm just glad my time of being involved is long gone because this won't be anything like Iraq or Afghanistan. They were a walk in the park compared to what I think this one could be.

Unless members of the soviet gpvernment or army perform a coup it could easily end up as ww3. If Putin thinks to himself: well, that was easy, we may as well reclaim another former member of the U.S.S.R., and attacks another country, the west will have no choice but to act militarily. There are shades of Hitler about this. We allowed Hitler to do as he wished until he invaded Poland and we were then left with little choice. (Although, some say it was money people in this country who had shares in polish coal mines that persuaded the government to act).

Putin has quelled the will of the people with intimidation and manipulated the powerful with riches and privilege ...

... they tried that system before and it ended in tears for the ruling class.

Putin's arrogance has gone unchecked and has become bigger than the sum of his parts. Modern media will mean he won't be able to hide the Russian body bags and the people have bitter memories of sacrificing their sons and daughters to war. This isn't to protect the Motherland, it's a conflict built on vanity and won't end well for Putin imo.

Wealthy Russians have become despised, around the world, and there'll be many people who'll want to put the boot in. Sanctions may well hurt us as well but it's a price worth paying imo. Our government has allowed far too much Russian involvement, and investment, here to help balance the books but it's time to get serious. Accepting Russian donations to the Tory party, has made it difficult for the PM to know how to become serious, something he usually strenuously avoids. It's time for the Churchill impersonation to be dropped and real action to be taken. This 'carefully graduated response' smacks too much of a 'make it up as we go along' routine as happened with Covid.

The Russian populace have little to live for except sport so I hope we start to exclude them starting with football, the Olympics and anything else we can take away from them. Stripping Chelsea of the titles and trophies bought by Abramovich would be a tap in. It would, in a second, invalidate his entire past investment and make it pointless to continue spending.

The Russian people are the key to all this in my opinion.

Thankfully all of China's military kit is made in china so it will fall apart before they get to use it. It won't be a case of dodging bullets, the bullets won't come out straight and will dodge you.

Probably true but Trump would be worse.

Putin has video tapes of Trump being peed on by Russian prostitutes.

Well we can believe that I suppose.

But what we know for a fact is that under Trump, the USA did not initiate a single conflict, despite, possibly because of, some bellicose tub thumping.

We also know that Obama was caught on a hot mike before his re election saying to a Russian official that he could be more accommodating to them after his election was achieved.

But anyone really looking for a root cause of this , beyond Putin being a psychopath, look at the EU, led by Germany which has licked Putin's arse officially for ten years. Ukraine would have been in NATO ten years ago but Germany, who has no effective armed force at all, vetoed it.

This is the first of many calamities sewn by Merkel which has flowered into a big problem, others will follow. She's now gone of course, with others left to sort it out.

Merkel won votes by not building nuclear power stations, pretending to be green whilst buying Russian gas.

How stupid does that make her look now! Her successor refusing some sanctions highlights the problem.

Does not mean that Trump isn't a cnut or is looney from some STD he had caught.

Whether Sleepy Joe is any good in this dangerous crisis we are about to find out. 10 years ago you would have said fine.. now we hope for intelligent aides advising him. He has a history of being antagonistic towards Russia

I doubt Ukraine has cruise missiles like Russia.

Can they not send some of their special forces into Russia where the cruise missiles are stored and launched and fire them off to Moscow and St Petersburg!

Putin has absolutely blown this like. Let's not hear any more ****e about how impressive their military is. It looks like they're still fighting like it's the 80s and Ukraine are giving them a proper bloody nose while they're plodding on. He's shattered the myth of the Russians as a modern fighting force to gain nothing at all.

Must admit, when he gave the speech about invading just as it was starting he looked like he was at some ancient hotel reception with a couple of very old dodgy looking telephones behind him and an old console type thing that looked like it was from an old Bond movie.
I see the allies are sending over some more equipment to help Ukraine; I wonder if we actually send over some really heavy **** to give the Ukraine more than a fighting chance?

We're sending over our newest anti-tank stuff. It seems to be working.

Sheer weight of numbers will tell eventually of course, but everyone seems to forget that they had the best part of fifteen or twenty years off from military improvements while the gangsters took over the country, and all the while the Americans and others have been preparing further. We've seen none of these capabilities they're supposed to have like hypersonic cruise missiles. The Ukrainian President is still livestreaming on Twitter for ****'s sake, they cn't even cut off the internet which is the firt thing any modern attack would do. They're flying sixty year old aircraft to 'test our air defences'. They're not a superpower and their economy is going to collapse.
