Who's doing that? I've gone through most of his managerial career, remember? You responded to the post.

Stats or no stats, it's a results based industry and he's underwhelmed his whole career and hasn't had a top job for over a decade. Think that's more than enough to no want him as me manager don't you?

I need a hell of a lot more than philosophy porn on tv to make my mind up on who'd I'd want, all theory and no application. We can all be an armchair manager. Would love it if you were recruiting the Mag manager.
You're in an angry mood today mate

You stated you would have to question
the sanity or football knowledge of anyone who rates the fool there for stating i know nothing.
I put hoddles name forward for peoples opinions and respect each and everyone of them. I think Hoddle was doing a great job when england manager until his mistake with his comments about disabled people which he was totally wrong to do. I reckon he could do a decent job for us and just needs another chance thats my opinion. And as for being eaten alive haha i dont take things to heart off complete strangers so i think i will be ok

In my opinion, it's just one persons opinion. It's no more right or wrong than you own. There was somebody else bigging up Hoddle as well as posters on other boards(this isn't the only board I post on) It's not about you, it's a personal opinion. And that last sentence, clearly you do, you're bitching on about. You don't see @En Garde crying on. He probily knew it was a sweeping statement of opinion with no fact involved.

No care to tell me why I'm self-centered yet you're not? My comments were arrogant, because I'm a ****er yes, you'll not get more honest character assassination on myself than my own. But it wasn't self-centered, where as you making yourself specifically the sole subject of my comments, the comment i made wasn't even directed to you. this is what I said to you.

It's not 1996 fella, I'd prefer not to have an out of touch dinosaur.

ffs you even bit at Billy because he didn't agree. Get over yourself man.

To be fair mate you do seem a bit uptight tonight. Relax man, grab a cuppa and a spliff and watch Pardew lob his cock out in front of the away end tonight as Chamakh knocks in his 3rd and Palace's 5th.

You're in an angry mood today mate

Why's that? I'm not angry, there's nothing in that post to suggest I am, it's firm debate. I'm passionate and believe in what I'm saying. Just pointing out that you've ignored my initial assessment on Hoddle, which you responded to, and used a separate statement to make me look simple like I haven't thought it out. No anger, just responding to your daily dose of word twisting.

Funny how people think they can asses a persons state of mind through a computer screen

Maybe self centered was the wrong word u described urself better. Your comments come across as a personal dig and im all for different opinions if i got wrong end of the stick then i apologise. Cant remember having a go at billy tough. Your the only one i was debating with as far as im aware. Water under the bridge as far as im concerned if we all agreed it would be a **** forum. I look forward to many more debates with you but less heated

GUS POYET is certainly not afraid to cause a stir among supporters. Just weeks after raising eyebrows on Wearside for suggesting many of them were living in the past, he followed up Tuesday night’s dreadful home defeat to QPR by launching a further attack on sections of the club’s fans.

But what sort of damage has he done? Has his outspoken assessment of the atmosphere in the stands fractured his own, previously healthy relationship with those paying to watch his team? Only time will tell.

In suggesting that Sunderland’s fans would rather see players “running around” than “trying to pass the ball” after losing 2-0 to struggling QPR, Poyet has lost a lot of his appeal to a number of the Wearside club’s followers judging by the reaction on social media.

His comments were part of a story which spent the day at the top of The Northern Echo’s most popular online stories chart and will have annoyed plenty of other readers of the back page as they ate breakfast on Wednesday morning.

There are those giving him the benefit of the doubt and agree with certain things that the South American has said, but Poyet has been urged to tread more carefully if he wants to stay popular among Sunderland’s support.

He is not past the point of no return just yet, according to long-standing season ticket holder Gareth Barker, who is a producer for the popular Wise Men Say podcast in association with A Love Supreme Fanzine.

“If Sunderland win at Bradford in the FA Cup and beat West Brom then it'll all simmer down again!,” said Barker, who has been a regular since the Stadium of Light opened in 1997.

“People often talk about style and systems, but none of that matters when you're winning. It's only when you're losing that the cracks begin to show. The only way Gus can turn things around now is to start winning.

“People have long memories in football. Even if we have a purple patch, we'll invariably have another bad run of form. If he comments on the support again then he'll be in serious trouble of losing them. I think some have already had enough of him, judging by social media.”

First half goals from Leroy Fer and Bobby Zamora were enough to inflict defeat on a Sunderland side that had provided hope in previous outings against Burnley, Fulham and Swansea City.

But Poyet was understandably frustrated after watching his team lose to a side who had failed to claim a single point in their previous 11 away matches. There were improvements after the restart from Sunderland after he had made adjustments.

Poyet said: “I don’t know if that was football. I don’t define that as football. It was a desperate team running about trying to be nice with the fans.
LOL what a mug
“You can’t analyse about passing the ball because nobody wanted to pass the ball here. Everybody wanted the players to play the ball forward – to let it bounce and get corners. It was more important to get a corner than make a pass.”

But Barker remains a fan of the Uruguayan and sympathises with him, to a degree. He said: “I don’t understand what he means. I don’t know what he is getting at.

“He speaks English very well but I don’t think his point comes across clearly sometimes and his words are often open to interpretation. That’s why his comments can be interpreted negatively, like they have a couple of times now.

“I personally would criticise fans who boo during games, but when you generalise the whole support with what a few are saying then that’s where there are problems. His critics can pounce on that and have a field day. It started again on Tuesday night. He has to be more careful in the future.”

Barker added: “There is an underlying problem with the club and I don’t know what it is. Poyet has taken on the challenge so it is his responsibility, but the enormity of the job he has to do is starting to take its toll.

“He is saying things he should not be saying. It’s not the fans totally and it’s wrong for him to say that it is. I am a fan who likes to focus on the football because the soap opera surrounding football is tiresome; things like what he has said do not help.”

It wasn't personal fella honest just sweeping statement in regards to views on a manager I really don't get. I meant what I said tough, I do have to question it because it's the polar opposite to my own views on him. Doesn't mean I'm right, just don't see his qualities. You didn't have a go at Billy fella, my apologies, I miss read it. It actually made me chuckle when I read it properly. My bad fella. Water under the bridge indeed fella. I'm a crass arrogant bugger you know but I mean no harm. :)

Nice 1

Like En Garde a lot, he never ducks out of a debate or resorts to silly posts.

Fair play to you mate, we probably don't agree on a lot of things but that's why these forums were made and why they thrive.

Seriously? I was there and, if not for some world class saves and a number of handball's in the box, that could easily have been 4 or 5-2 to us - we weren't very good but we were certainly not "royally humped" They weren't very good either. I felt sorry for Wickham coming off as he played OK and won just about everything in the second half yesterday. Had a couple of those chances gone in and we'd come back to draw 2-2 people would be saying we'd played well. My mate missed the first half but saw the second on a stream and he has just emailed me saying he thought we played well second half but for some good saves and poor refereeing we'd have got something from the game

You obviously didn't get the pun Marcus, never mind. We were 'Royally humped', as it were.
You can't be that weak for 30 minutes and expect to get away with it. Then the remaining part of the game, in which we were much better, he laments for being hoof ball? Did he think we played well in the first 30 minutes?
I was angry as **** last night. still a bit angry now. His picking on the fans just doesn't wash, he needs to take a good look at himself first and foremost and accept the responsibility of making this work, not how he'd like it to work in some footballing dreamland of his.

He IS responsible! He just doesn't seem to get that! That's his job and the buck stops with him!

Someone mentioned Sean Dyche earlier, maybe in jest a little. I think that's actually a good punt! He's got the so-called no-hopers of Burnley fired up most weeks! Damn, just realised I've gone back on my position of keeping Gus <doh>

WTF. First Hull roll us over and now THE worst team in the league take 6-points off of us. This is hurting and we are hurtling towards another fight akin to last season; it is teeth grindingly painful and Mr Poyet seems to live on a different planet. I feel he needs some advice
1. Leave the fans well alone, they pay their money and travel the country supporting this club. They are extremely passionate extremely loyal and have put up with much have and gotten back very little over many years. They are regarded by many as the best supporters in the country and they know their football.
2. Stop talking dross to the media, they are waiting to pounce on any comment you make; employ a better media expert to voice your opinions and shut the f**k up yourself.
3. Accept that the manager makes the decisions, so the buck stops with you. Look again at the team selection, sit down quietly and ask yourself WTF did I do that for?
4. Sort it out as, other than beating our nearest rivals and being head of a team that performed a miracle at the end of last season (I am sure all Sunderland supporters are eternally grateful) the rest has been mediocre, painful and baffling.
For Gods sake, can it really be that we have so many bad strikers who cannot score a goal? Or is it team selection and tactics? Fekety fakety fek!
Rant over

For you lot, I'd give careful consideration to your fanbase and be able to understand them. Gus clearly doesn't. Di Canio probably did but his methods were unorthodox and Martin O'Neill seemed a bit flappy without his number two at his side.

Having a look at good coaches, who look like they know what they're doing, I'd say you lot couldn't go far wrong with Steve Bould. I wouldn't know his 'philosophy' but he seems a very genuine bloke who evidently knows a thing or two.

Aside from him, like Nads mentioned McClaren is a world class coach and he'd have to be first choice, he knows the region and has experience in bringing success to that region.

**** the whole 'philosophy' thing off because quite frankly, it's a load of bollocks. Some daft word that Pep spouted off all too often as he took credit for what Messi, Iniesta and Xavi did on the pitch when they were all untouchable.

He was part and parcel of our solid start all those years ago under Reidy. He would certainly get the fans/our history.

He might sound like an Irish Lesbian, in fact he might look like one, but I like Sean Dyche too.

Honest, hard working, gets players playing for him and the team, and has done remarkably well with a very limited squad. They play decent footie, too.
