World cup thread.

Ronaldo could go on for years but you might worry a bit for Portugal when he does finally stop playing.

Spain as expected looked like a side unaffected by the management change and Costa is a real beast when on song.

Both teams ought to win the next 2 games so the goal difference might come in handy and on tonight's evidence there might be a few.
I think both teams can live with that result Mark. As you say they should win their next games and, from what I have seen of Russia's group, both should have a clear path to the quarter final at least. Portugal can be a very resilient side even without Ronaldo, as they proved in the Euro Final against France, and simply being hard to beat can also win you titles.

Didn't see quite all of it, but Spain were 3-2 ahead when I was called away. They showed every sign at that stage of doing what Watford were accused of, trying to close the game down. It didn't work take notice please. Still a great game with entertainment. Hope it continues.

It was a super game but Danny Murphy could not have been more biased if he tried. I can only assume he had a bad holiday on the Algarve.

Spain are the new Watford! ;)

That might well be true in Albufeira. I have spent a lot of time in São Brás, which is inland from Faro, and Tavira, which has some incredible beaches by boat. I lived between the two for a few years and Portugal is really beautiful.

There will be teams who saw that match last night and thought that there is a couple of defences that could be got at, although I don't expect De Gea to make another mistake like that.

A special mention to the Uruguay manager, Oscar Tavares. He has a debilitating illness, needs crutches or a mobility scooter to get about, but his passion for the game is still as strong as ever. It puts into perspective some players antics on the pitch, especially his own number 9...

Seem to be doing well now .

Had more of the game I think .
Still too many "Sunday morning" tackles from Oz and poor decision making from the French. I think the ref left his cards in the dressing room... oh I see Leckie picked up a YC, I must have been making the tea at that point :emoticon-0138-think

I still think I'm right and it's not a penalty. It has to be clear and obvious. We have three different opinions in the studio so it's not clear.

Phil Neville having a logic breakdown me thinks <laugh>

Carrillo to start for Peru. Funny how two recent wingers for us who we’d probably say haven’t been quite up to th PL mark have both started WC games...
