It doesn't really matter who is captain until they bring in a sensible rule like only the captain is allowed to talk to the ref, anyone else gets booked for doing it.

Like rugby does. It would lay down clear rules for who can speak to the ref and end these unsavoury incidents where players surround the ref and/or badger him over decisions.
Didn't they have that rule in the Premier League a few years ago - only for Mark Clusterfuck to forget about it for one of our games against Man Utd by booking captain Luka Modric for speaking to him while he was chatting with non-captain Rio Ferdinand?
