PNP, you say 5-1 is unbelievable, well perhaps I'm the only one here not surprised. I'm not one to crow but I posted yesterday that as The Netherlands have a good record against Brazil that they'd do well in Brazil and hey presto. I tipped them for the last four. COCK A DOODLE DOOOOOOOOO.
Torres managing to miss an open goal at the end once again begs the question: how did he get in the squad but Negredo didn't? Actually, forget "how", "why" would be a better word.
General Franco, Pablo Picasso, Placido Domingo, Julio Iglesias, Raul, Salvador Dali, Catherine of Aragon, Rafa Nadal, Fernando Alonso, St Francis Xavier, Penelope Cruz, Miguel Indurain, El Cid, Jose Maria Olzabal, King Juan Carlos- your boys took a hell of a beating.
Just finished watching Aus v Chile. Aside the result why do keepers insist on pushing the ball out in front of the goal instead of to the side? The third Chile goal was a direct consequence of this, but I have seen an emerging trend recently of this. Spurcat, your thoughts.
"It is here now. All the distances and the miles we have covered, the heat preparation - we have done all that. There are no excuses now." - Gerrard Might as well have said "this does not slip now".
What heat preparation? They spent a few days on a jolly in Florida, complaining about being too hot and getting the fans turned on (oohh er missus!)
...all the bitch-like whining about Honduras having the temerity to play like men against our candy asses... I swear sometimes Gerrard makes Rooney shine by comparison... ...although playing one football game in Miami in the spring does make Shackleton's journey to South Georgia look like a walk in the park. I played a tennis match there last spring laboring under the illusion it was good fun... ...Miami, that is, not South Georgia Island.
Hodgson said last night they'd been preparing two years for the way they'll play tonight. Just remember that when they're as dour and toothless as ever:S What's the odds on Milner playing to add stability to the right hand side? I'll flush my head down the loo if he does that. Robben showed that with a pacy skilful attacker you can do wonders. Get Sterling on so he can make it his tournament
It depends on whether Hodgson does what he says he'll do, and be adventurous. Or, he reverts to conservative type. But yes, I agree. Give Sterling, and the other youngsters like Barkley, their head and let's see where we go.
As their PR representative, I might recommend: "We're about to play a massively overhyped football game and can only hope we play some decent stuff for once."
Same goes for Mexico's goal against Cameroon. My main thought during Chile/Australia was "When did Lee Dixon sign with ITV?" I'd probably have concentrated on the game more if I wasn't shattered having spent the whole afternoon in one long queue around the British Museum's viking exhibit, thanks to a combination of audio tour guides and somebody with a pram. Cameroon were utterly dire in their match, almost as if the players had spent more time before the game squabbling about bonuses instead of on the training pitch...
The Lions were abdominable. One bright moment from Beni and that was it. Though considering Cameroon just drew with Gemany it may be, at least to some extent, that Mexico are very good. Mexico-Brazil should be interesting. No one else may think it means much, but Mexico are in some sense the defending world champions, and beat Brazil in the final.
I have to say that GDS looked pretty good against Cameroon - a lot like Andros Townsend, but with more end product.
The Dutch really were very good, and would almost certainly have won anyway, but arguably the decisive third goal should have been ruled out for a foul on the keeper. Let's not forget that Croatia had a goal ruled out against Brazil for a foul on the keeper not anywhere near as obvious. Not bad that in only a few games there have been a huge number of controversial (or downright wrong) decisions by refs - don't forget Mexico had two good goals ruled out!
I disagree. I don't think that Casillas was fouled at all. He totally misjudged the flight of the ball and collided with someone. On the other hand, Diego Costa should've been sent off for his pathetic headbutt attempt on Bruno Indi Martins. The ref missed it, so he should pick up a ban. Won't hold my breath.
