If you ignore all the England have no chance hype and only 30% of premiership players are English, and forget that Salah and Aguero scored a few goals, Kane, Vardy and Sterling also scored a load too!

My bet to myself is that England’s Women are likely to lift the World Cup before the men next do.

Even so, I am looking forward to seeing how the men do. It won’t be worse than the 2014 Gerrard / Lampard testimonial tour, and we might just do ok. I’m hoping 1/4 finals.

Yes, whatever we think of a striker being captain, you have to choose someone who is almost certain to be played and has a certain maturity and experience.

His record over the last couple of seasons is certainly inspirational, so hopefully that rubs off on some others. Not sure about sending him to moan at a ref or calm a situation with authority though. Gulp
