I'm gonna need more words Toby. I can try and infer but it is never as fun that way. I asked a question if a case can be made for Artur Boruc being world class at one point in his career.
I only picked the first player in the list that i've seen play/know vaguely the stats for. You claim at one point in his career he may have been in the top 3 players in his position? Based on? International appearances? He played for Poland occasionally and did ****all. Champions League? As he ever done anything spectacular? Not that I can remember. Transfers/Demand for his signature? Played in Scotland and is now playing for PL whipping boys, wow. Please try and make a case for him being 'World Class'? Did all the scouts for the best teams in the world not care about a World Class keeper? Was his price too high? (in a league where players go for nothing compared to their comparative worth) Was he incredibly good but slipped under the radar? The answers to all those questions are pretty obvious
Ok, so you're going to do this as usual I was drunk last night and said 'claim', when I should have said 'suggest', I'm not going to drag this on for ages. Your suggestion that Boruc may have been in the top 3 keepers in the world at any point is risible, as explained in the examples I just gave you. Same with Keane, Lambert, Petrov (these are the only ones in that list that I've actually seen play more than once)
Weeble ghaped by Toby. When will this middle-aged mess of a bhigot finally realize the fact that JESUS HATES HIM
Right, ya Nigel ****! Boruc was a good goalie. Never in the top three in the world granted. However, some of your points are nonsense. First of all, he has 46 caps for Poland which is hardly playing "occasionally". Secondly, he kept us in the CL on many occasions with some fantastic saves. Thirdly, players may go cheap at most Scottish teams but you cannot seriously believe that's the case with Celtic? We got £5.5m for Ki, who couldn't even get in the first team, £9m for McGeady and turned down £6m+ bids for Hooper as recently as a week ago. So, in summary, **** off ya diddy team supporting ****!
Do what again Toby? Maybe I wouldn't have to keep pointing out you have the comprehension levels of an infant if you weren't such a simpleton. To clarify, I asked whether a case could be made for the inclusion at that level. This is not the same thing as suggesting he was at one time operating at that level. His inclusion on the shortlist for FIFPro team of the year in 2008 (along with 4 other keepers) would suggest that naming Boruc as being considered as being at that level is far from risible. We can talk about his performances in the Champions league and in Euro 2008 that merited his inclusion on that shortlist if you like?
The poor old wacist Bankwupt Bawwie. Not content with cheerleading for Paddy Med Dog he now sticks his weight behind Toby
I never said he was a **** keeper, just not one of the best in the world. I bet there are also keepers in the diddy teams from Eastern Europe that have pulled off some great saves and kept their teams in the CL, doesn't make them special. Playing for Poland Hooper would be worth £15M automatically if he was at a PL team, you allegedly refused £6M but you would have sold him if they upped their bid a bit. Also, Watford will be in the PL soon enough, just you wait
Comprehension levels? Get to ****. I posted on this ****ty thread last night because it's ridiculous, unfortunately I was drunk so didn't choose my words correctly and now you're just going to go on and on about it for 2 pages if I keep on answering you. There is no case to be made that he was one of the best keepers in the world back then, he's been mostly a substitute this season for one of the worst teams in the PL. Goalkeepers also tend to get better as they get older, so something must be wrong? As I said to ST, he may have made a few good saves in the CL but that means nothing, loads of keepers have. Also, Petrov
You genuinely are ******ed. To spell it out for you YET AGAIN. The question was a simple one. Is there a case to be made for player x? I don't know why you struggle with your comprehension so much
If I may add my tuppence worth. Was Boruc world class at his best? He was certainly close to it but I've always maintained that to be genuine world class a player must maintain that level over a period of a good few years. Roy Keane qualifies but obviously not during his brief Celtic career.
This Boruc was never world-class. A quality goalkeeper and a cult hero nonetheless. The only players I've seen at Celtic who were genuinely world-class have been Lambert and Larsson.
I've never understood the term "world class" to be honest. Seems far too vague a classification to use as an appropriate paradigm for players.
Seriously though, it's easy to get misty-eyed about old players but Boruc was good for 3 seasons and utter mince for 2 seasons. Celtic had ****e goalies going back to about 1994. No wonder we all thought Artur was the best thing since sliced bread. Marshall, Kerr, Gould, Douglas, Hedman, Kharine
I agree. That us why I asked the question. He was utterly exceptional for maybe 18 months. Good enough to be considered as a nominee for world team of the year. If that constituted a spot on the World Class podium I am not so sure. Would anyone swap 2013 Boruc for 2013 Forster? I would doubt it. Judging Boruc on those 18 months them there was certainly the potential to be up there.... Now.... He plays for Southampton.
