The male pundit just referred to the "Man-marking System". Nobody corrected hm, so must be the acceptable term.
Apparently, that's the first time England’s women have faced a penalty shoot-out in a major tournament, since the 2011 World Cup.
Real mixture of quality among those penalties. First three were piss-poor, but the Daly and Kelly ones were brilliant.
Outstanding penalty from Rachel. When she joined the Houston Dash in 2016, we actually gave her a place to live for four months. The players received a pittance in wages and expected local supporters to host the players. Don’t think she’ll ever be in that position again! Great player maybe at the tail end of her playing career but would be great to lift the trophy.
Chloe Kelly getting lots of kudos online for not been ****. Deservedly so, I think this would have been a quick pat on the back in the men’s game. And basically telling the cameraman to do one rather than film her opponent’s tears is pretty classy all told.
True dat, but also, how the **** was that seen as a clear and obvious error? Why was VAR involved at all?
Colombia set up a Women's World Cup quarter-final against England with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Jamaica.
Promising young England number 7 lights up a major international tournament, then gets sent off for a petulant kick at an opponent? I have a reasonable idea of how a male player might have been perceived in similar circumstances, yes.
Have been thinking exactly the same. It strikes me as really odd how little has been made of it. p.s. not saying that's a bad thing; reactions have been totally OTT in the past, but it makes you wonder why.
It's just way less high profile. The fact we went through probably helped too, but the WWC just isn't front-page news in this country, unless we win it maybe.
I also hope we’ve learnt our lessons as a country from doing that to people but I don’t think we have.
