Just doing what a parachute payment club should be doing really, coming down and not being in the mix for promotion straight away would be a huge failure.

I do think they should be thinking more long term though. They've been kind of doing the same thing repeatedly for years now with similar recruitment every year, constantly signing players that are in that weird bracket of too good for the Championship but not good enough for the PL.

I think they'll come 2nd.

I think we will.

I was the target last night when the were telling me standard coaching terms were fake and I was full of ****

also told me I couldn’t possibly have watched a player play cos they haven’t

oh and also said that me and cam were apparently the same person

Christ. Possibly best it was deleted and you can move on.

You could say the same for us though, it would be a struggle. Look at Leicester, they won the league with a better team than we’ve got, yet they’re struggling big time. Could argue Southampton’s side last season was better than ours now too - just look at how they’re doing

It’s all about recruitment and survival in that first season, just find a way to stop up

Ironically I’ve read Sheffield Utd fans saying they have a better squad than Southampton and Leicester. Which is absolute bollocks. I can’t think of a single Sheff Utd player other than probably Hamer that’s a definite starter for Southampton.

The sheff utd transfer debate is an interesting one, I like the signings for them - I think all 3 will do well for them. I actually find it strange that Southampton aren't recalling Charles and using him this season, their season is done so should be focusing on the players that'll help them nxt season and he's one of then

I don't mind what sheff utd have done but I still prefer what we are doing. I see folk making the argument that there fans will be happy if they go up but come straight back down - try telling that to Southampton fans this season, I know a couple season ticket holders and they are hating it

I don't want to just get promoted to the PL to come back down, I want to have a team that could compete when we get there.

Now we might go up this season and then come back down but I think when you have younger players like we do you hope they keep kicking on and that could stand us in a great place when we get back to the PL

Recruitment is so tough as you are always balancing short term success with longer term growth. I actually think Sheff Utd are getting the balance right, even though I don't think many of their players could make the step up

Time will tell who gets it right this yr and fir the seasons to come

If sheff United go up then fair play to them, that’s the beauty of the pyramid, teams get what they deserve. They’re going with a different strategy to us which has been successful for others chasing promotion Personally, I don’t just want us to go up, I want us to try and stay up with foundations to push on and one day maybe break the top ten of the prem.

I don’t think sheff United strategy does that. Just because you get the prem money doesn’t mean you can just spend it all. The likes of cannon and BBD have not showed to be good enough for the prem yet, it’s not going to a given they can just offload them in the summer and even if they do, you’re talking a big turnover of players again to even try and stay up.

Other side of course is what happens if we don’t go up and then ultimately lose jobe etc. Thats a convo for a different day if the time comes, I think we’re well placed currently.

Seems very promising, complete opposite to what someone said on here
Watched the first half of that and was surprised to see some label him as lazy. The lad was happy to press but clearly was blowing after 30-35 minutes. He wasn’t on the same wavelength as a lot of the other 21s but they were missing Jones and Ogunsuyi etc and was their first game in over a month. I think him and Samed will both feature against Benfica on Wednesday at the SOL.

We're in a position of playing catch up with teams with far more resources than we have. We have players - mostly young players - who have shown that they're good enough to play in this league but now the hardest part is to find players to supplement them. It's hard but we've done ok up to now with Mepham and Le Fee. Surely the recruitment team deserve our patience and trust in getting the right players in. Worst case scenario is that we have 3 extra games at the end of the season :emoticon-0105-wink:

The position they are in is hardly unexpected, the recruitment combined with a coach who wants to play possession based Pep ball was a mismatch.

Theres no guarantee we'd stay up but id back us to comfortably do better than them. We're built to be solid without the ball and potent with it, there's no wishy washy play.

This is part of the reason I'm hoping that if we go up, Ipswich stay up, with them and the three promoted leagues forming a mini league of sorts.

I'm with you 100% on this . I obviously want us to be in the top league but only if we can compete or grow into the standard over the first season back. Its still very clear in my memory how depressing and painful it was when we were last there . Knowing we we not up to it Managers scared to open up and have a go and turgid football at times .Even the years where we had a very exciting last 8 or so games where we achieved miracles what preceded them was awful . The yo yo years eventualy catch up with teams that do that .

Just another striker I had in mind was Tim Lemperle - out of contract in the summer but linked to a couple of the lower end bundesliga teams. Again just a thought and NOT a transfer link .
