Gift Orban wouldn’t be coming here to sit on the bench tbh so probably not no. Wouldn’t be bad having him and Isidor but that’s not really realistic.
Can't see us going for another CF with Isidor, Connolly, Mayenda and Abdullahi. Rusyn if we're desperate, imagine he'll get shifted on though.
I'd be looking to see who is out of contract in the summer to see if we can strike a cut price deal, or look to get them in on a free in the summer if we go up. Tariq Lamptey just looks like a Sunderland signing to me. Has massive potential but has lost his way a bit due to injuries and isn't really getting a game atm. Would cover right and left back.
Lamptey is a great shout. Can’t imagine Brighton would drive a hard bargain given he is out of contract in the summer. Much would depend if we could convince him to join given there is no immediate place in the team for him. Mundle is a great example tho of the benefit of joining with a structure and a plan without the need to immediately sink or swim.
He looked absolutely superb when he started getting into the Brighton side a few years back. Just hasn’t kicked on
Archie Gray is (or, was) on a whole other level to Cirks. Cirkin barely played last season, remember. He'd looked decent but not really special, and there was a big risk he'd spend half his career on the physio table. Looks to have gotten over those problems now, touch wood...
Gray certainly has youth on his side but in terms of his performances last season I wouldn’t say he was on another level. There was quite a few RB’s rated higher than him last season, including Hume. He was decent but he wasn’t really a cut above as a RB, I think it’s mostly due to his age that such a big fee was spent. Still though they could’ve surely got Cirkin back for peanuts in comparison?
Gray is also best as a CM, when he played there he was a stand out. When teams are buying players they are looking at short term potential but also long term. Gray has really big upside, in a position that is vital (3 CMs went for over 100 million last couple seasons) so that's why his fee was higher Gray was really good at RB for Leeds last season, impressive for a young lads 1st season when he's not even playing his best position I really like Cirkin but he can't be compared to Gray in terms of transfer fees imo
I’d say Cirks looked special the season before mind, was often discussed on here the transformative effect he had on side when fit. WBA away being the best example. He’s only still here due to the injuries, there’s no doubt in my mind if he’d done 2 seasons injury free Spurs would have used the buyback or another PL team would have took a stab. That rare thing and fortune that injury actually benefitted us. I love Cirks. Lamptey is a brilliant shout. Pacey and direct, he is a wariness for for some of what we do. Looked utterly superb when he broke through.
Absolutely not mate I agree with that, I was meaning more I’m surprised they splashed £40m on Gray but wouldn’t have picked Cirkin back up for maybe £5m if they had the chance. We all know how well Spurs books are balanced so they could drop the money on Cirkin wouldn’t even batting an eyelid. But yeah Gray was worth much more than Cirkin because as mentioned above age is on his side and a full season at championship level around the age of 17/18 is impressive. I do think he was playing in a very good team though primarily as a RB who didn’t have much defending to do. Be interesting to see if he’s moved back to CM or if spurs see him developing there
Yeah 40 seems a lot, he will need to turn into a very good player to justify that I think Cirkin being injured last season worked in our favour as meant there was little interest in him. Spurs have a class LB at the minute so I think they would have only activated the buy back if they could flip him to another team for a profit I do think Cirkin will make them massively regret that, he is class and should only get better. He has a bit of everything, which you don't often see in modern fullbacks. I really like the lad Davis at Ipswich but defensively he gets caught out a lot (for PL level), which is where Cirkin should have the advantage over him (Davis's crossing is unreal tho, better than Cirkins imo)
I don't think crossing the ball from wide areas is something we work on much tbh.......the vast majority of the time,we look to work the ball inside. In fact, one criticism..( the only one)!.... I have of last Saturday, was how poor our delivery was from wide...corners incl.
