Seems strange we'd do this to Watson yet not to Chris Rigg. Both very highly regarded throughout the football world
As they should be for a 17 year old who at that stage hadn’t played first team football. If that’s true, and this is what it is, he will be one of those players that disappears. Attitude and mentality is everything in elite football. I just don’t see it, we could see the joy when he scored for us.
Makes no sense, we clearly pay decent wages as seen by the players we have signed or extended the contracts of. He doesn't strike me as a player to be making huge demands, yes he wants to play for 1st team but then that contradicts going to Brighton where he isn't going to play first team football
Just painting the picture of the exact kind of player we don’t want if true. If you’re good enough, the money comes. Interested to see what comes out in the wash.
Why didn’t he sign for one of the many prem clubs who wanted him at the time then? Seems weird to retrospectively think it was too little either his focus is on wages or on pathway, which he’s getting here. It’s clear he chose pathway last time so why not now?
I'm sure we pay the going rate for our youngsters. They should be more interested in their pathway through to senior football. Atm we are excellent at doing this
Thing is when was this new contract offer made, like I've said earlier if Mundle hadn't picked up an injury, Watson would still just be getting on the bench and probably most of his playing time would still be with the u21s. The lad has loads of potential but he hasn't really cemented that tearing up the league. If we are being offered around 10m for someone that will probably start next season as second choice LW we can't really turn that down. I also don't blame Watson, he can sit on our bench or Brightons but Brighton will pay him so much more and have a great reputation for developing young players
problem with twitter is nobody has an opinion - they all have their own version of fact and truth. And they can’t understand why anybody would have a different view. Worse than that, they think everyone else is wrong or bad if they do.
hmmm, starting to sound as if the lad (or family) have been talking to a few at least about his contract(s) and that really should be a personal thing only shared with club, agent and player...most clubs appear to prefer such things to remain quiet. the problems arise when young lads get promoted and have heard of the crazy amounts that premiership stars get, they have to be something special or work the way up, keeping quiet is also a good skill to learn.
that’s huge downgrade from Lath and he’s on loan. much rather Danns. Look at the impact Doak has had at the smogs. Diallo when he joined here as well. The usual came out as said he failed at rangers. Young players with something to prove rather than a last pay packet.
Defo can be if Rohl helps him find some consistency, but I wouldn't have gone near him and Plymouth fans aren't massively upset.
