I was in Belfast in October and there was talk of the redevelopment at Casement Park. I think it was suggested that it might be used as part of the joint Euros bid.
I did a bit of research into hurling a few years back when I was thinking about doing some writing about the history of sport. I think the earliest reference is 5th or 6th century and there are definitely some very early depictions of hurleys (I think they're called caman in gaelic) on things like gravestones. I'm really interested in ancient sports- like that and the Mayan ball game.
Football has moved on, especially for clubs like ours. Clubs aren't going out signing a Darren Bent anymore. The out and out striker doesn't really exist anymore. It's all wing play and playing out from the back (blame Pep for that). Trouble is, we needed a striker... so did everyone else. I myself have questioned the logic of the seemingly less need for a striker, but when you sit back and look at it, as I've said above, the game has moved on. Other than Rigg against Southampton, when was the last time we scored with a cross from the wing in open that ended up with a bullet header into the net? There will be one or 2, but I can't think at present.
I'm not sure the Mayans played that game tbh. I've been to Chitchen Itza and what they think was the field/court seems far too big for what they think the game was. They'd have to have an arm like Dan Marino.
Overall, happy with the window. Got 3 players in who will be knocking on the door of the first team. Sent a few out on loan who are still a bit away from the first team.

The court at Chichen Itza is particularly big compared to others (I've been too). I think there is an explanation for why it's so large but I can't remember what it is!
I'd say Rusyn has already stepped up and it's up to us to give him the ball when and where he wants it. He's been like that since day one.

No wonder Alex Neil walked out and went onto greater things.
