The model has to flex depending on the circumstances we find ourselves in. We were well ahead of schedule making the playoffs last year. How does potentially losing Clarke, Ballard et al. after finishing bottom half of the league in 23/24 and all the other bad stuff that will come with that including reduced investment and a mightily pissed off fanbase set us up for 25/26 in a better way that taking advantage of our unexpected progress would have?
It was supposed to be flexed last week, but we would not pay loan and wages for a forward who would help us.
FRUSTRATING OR WHAT

OK my view, he's looking to fulfill his mams hopes of being able to run a club like his dad,
He will not use his own money, so we have to sell to invest, that's never gonna work up in the NE its hard enough to get players here paying good money.
What we got from the 3 sales Ross Hadj and Gooch has gone on the infrastructure of the club.
Well thats all well and good, but that don't get you up the league.
We are just treading water because he believes what KS has brainwashed him into believing, that this modle is sustainable well not for Sunderland fans its not, not when a Billionaire buys us and does not invest his own money, just uses local hard working folks money.
He is treating us as an experiment to see if he can handle bigger things abroad.
With Juan moving into politics again, it will be interesting to see who joins KLD when Juan sells his shares.
It won't be his family coming on board.
Wonder how much of that is true or will happen?

We can’t compete with relegated clubs on money. It’s as simple as that. We need more income. We are close by spending smartly, keep doing it and as we up our income from transfers we close the gap. KLD would have to use his personal cash to fund what the premier league income pays for or get into debt. Not going to happen. Nor should it.

I wasnt going to reply, but hey ho.

The reason i have mentioned off the field stuff that needs improving is exactly for that reason, to increase our income, so KLD doesnt have to fund anything. I havent mentioned it for a good few days and have set up a seperate thread for finances. That has been taken by some as a dig at the owners, its far from it, its an opinion and thats what messageboards are for arent they expressing opinions?

Wouldn't disagree at all
In the scenario you list, you would hope that the £50m+ received for Clarke, Ballard & Neil (for example) would be reinvested. Those 3 players cost us £3m, so you'd hope that even £25m could find us 3 players either as good, or close to as good as them.

I've always said that the real test of the model would be when we lose a marquee player and what we do with the money. All eyes are on this next week to see if any of the Stewart money (assuming it wasn't already spent in the summer) is spent.

The bigger issue is currently the Head Coach. I don't see a way forward with him at all, so the rest is moot

You’ve been reading to many of Bobs posts.

The first thing he needs to do is win against Stoke.

OK my view, he's looking to fulfill his mams hopes of being able to run a club like his dad,
a) He will not use his own money, so we have to sell to invest, that's never gonna work up in the NE b) its hard enough to get players here paying good money.
What we got from the 3 sales Ross Hadj and Gooch has gone on the infrastructure of the club.

We are just treading water because he believes what KS has brainwashed him into believing, that this d) modle is sustainable well e) not for Sunderland fans its not, not when a Billionaire buys us and does not invest his own money, f) just uses local hard working folks money.

a) No, he's trying to run the club sustainably so we're not reliant on a sugar daddy in the form of billionaire (look what happened with the last billionaire) or an oil-rich state with a PR problem.

b) That's why we're investing in youth and trying to make a name as a club who will develop young players.

c) It's got us quite a long way from where we were when he arrived

d) It is sustainable (at least in theory), that's the point of it.

e) what do you mean it's not sustainable for Sunderland fans? It's either sustainable or its not. I'm a Sunderland fan and I think its a great idea

f) what's wrong with that? Our (the collective we, obvs) money is running the club so 'we' have more of a connection to it. Its not a local club if a foreign billionaire pays foreign mercenaries to come and half-arsedly keep us just above the Premier League relegation zone.

If you say about him not spending money etc is true than KS is exactly what he wants/needs to get the most out of his asset.

I agree with this. I do think we have to be better commercially. Arguably that’s what they tried to do with the mags game but ballsed it up. Simple fact is if we don’t have extra income we don’t compete.
