So you sign someone like Bent. No thanks I'd rather stick with what we have. The wrong player can disrupt a team it's not just the case of their own game not working.
Townsend is a good example. The media's darling boy for a couple of months and England's new star. We on the other hand who watched him week after week thought he was wasteful and thoughtless in his decision making. Never mind we'll no doubt get an inflated fee because he has been reported highly. So much bullshit in football, no wonder the pitches are so green.
I have banished Darren Bent from my memory bank!! You raise a very good point about them having to fit, and whilst I did sort of say I would take almost anyone (I would draw the line at Bent), I would trust Pochettino to bring the right man and I feel that playing say Chadli out of position (and even Son to a certain extent) as a Centre forward is less favourable than buying a player like Saha (who actually fitted Ok , we have certainly had worse strikers).
It's the most difficult position to fill. Look at Rebrov and Soldado for example, both good strikers and both failed at Spurs. Look at Diego Costa this season at Chelsea, not a patch on his performances last season. We could do with back up to Kane for sure, but can we find one of the right quality and attitude, it's the tallest of orders, which is why they fetch such premium fees. We could all list many 'great strikers' and their failed seasons. Finding or producing a Kane is like winning the lottery.
Various papers are reporting that Vejlkovic will leave this month after refusing to sign a new contract. Errrm...it's been common knowledge that he was refusing to sign a new contract since he told a Serbian paper he wanted out back in November. He's currently being linked with Palermo and Sporting Gijon, the latter of which is interesting considering he was set for a season-long loan there back in August before the deal fell through (after being announced on Gijon's Twitter account) France Football have reported that we've had a £6m bid for Toulouse striker Wissam Ben Yedder rejected, as Toulouse want a bid closer to £8m for his services. Considering he's scored 13 goals in all competitions this season and has 18 months on his contract, plus he has the ability to play up front or behind the main striker, he certainly sounds like a pretty good fit - then again, giving Shayon Harrison a run of games is starting to feel like a pretty good option at the moment.
Has to be something known about him that's not in the public domain. But at £4mill, got to be worth a punt.
Austin is an absolute bargain at that price, will have to put in my dream team in order to ensure that only scores about 3 goals for the saints
About two years ago I got berated for suggesting Long would be a decent signing as a second choice striker! Although I did also mention Steven Fletcher too, which is fair to say wasn't a great shout in hindsight. Would definitely have Long at Spurs if Saints wanted to do business (don't see why they wouldn't ), he's completely different to Kane, uses his pace well and likes playing off the last defender, a great option to change things up if Kane isn't producing or also a decent option play alongside Harry.
We should go all out to sign Embolo from Basel, he's still really young so wouldn't demand to play every game and he has potential to be one of the best strikers in Europe.
Embolo looks really good but with Kane only 22 himself, you'd have to wonder where Embolo would see his long term future, he may be happy to come in and spend a season on the bench but after a while I'd think he'd expect to be a starter and seeing as we play predominantly with one up top, I can't see him seeing us as his best option. Reckon we're better off going for someone who's already been used to a bench role and knows how to make an impact and lead the line when needed, Remy and Long would be great options, Berahino would be too but only if we can get him for a decent price, he's been benched a lot this season so if Peace still thinks he can get over £20m for him then he's lost the plot. Can't believe Soton have bagged Austin for £4m, injury problems or not, that's a ****ing bargain and a half.
Yourself and PS have a very interesting shared opinion on this matter that I am genuinely trying to get my head around. All the examples you've cited were signed to be headlining, 20+ goals a season strikers who would expect to start every game. I don't think anyone on here would be annoyed if we don't sign Berahino if Peace is digging his heels in for north of £20m, because as you have rightly pointed out - his attitude since August has frankly been shocking, especially considering the fact that Pulis has a reputation for being one of the best man-managers in the game. So there exists a genuine worry that he could disrupt the changing room if things don't go his way and upset our delicately balanced squad. I get that. But we're talking about a back-up striker here. Someone who by definition has to be happy to spend most of their time on the bench, which is why in previous seasons we've ended up with the likes of Gudjohnsen and Saha. I guess I'm struggling to grasp the apparent correlation between a player not 100% 'fitting the system' and consequent 'disruption' they'll have on it.
Steven Fletcher is out of contract at the end of the season, so he'd probably come cheap... One thing I can't help but notice is that, even though there's been a lot of talk since August of him making a Premier League move, there's been no mention of Alexandre Pato this month. Either every single club has forgotten about him as Batshuayi and Embolo became hot commodities in the interim, or perhaps his agent was blowing an awful lot of hot air to get the best move for him...sorry, I mean the best move for his client.
Eriksen has stated he is currently in negotiations for a new contract Original article: http://www.tv3sport.dk/fodbold/nyheder/eriksen-forlaenger-hojst-sandsynligt-med-spurs/ Google Translate: https://translate.google.com/transl...enger-hojst-sandsynligt-med-spurs/&edit-text= ...so the Standard can use this information to help stick their articles saying he'll be off to PSG or Juventus somewhere it'll be painful and unsanitary to stick things.
