He's still on a high 4 figure a week wage, id class that as decent money
 
Inside Futbol and Football League World are reporting a 7 figure bid by us for Porteous... dont know how reputable they are..,. £2 million including add ons...

Some talk of it up here that we've bid for him but also that Rangers are in for him as well.

So apart from been out of form, what has he done wrong now? I suspect he’s probably still involved in the counselling/rehab process, which may mean he’s actually in a worse place mentally before things can improve.

I only know that as I work with a girl who is a Sunderland WAG and she was out with them all and he wasn’t drinking and one of the security guards who goes out with them makes sure he doesn’t, really tragic considering he’s a grown adult. He may have since got back on it but last few times he was out he wasn’t

It's rumour and speculation, but I don't think if it was just a form thing they'd be wanting rid so soon. Not if he was fully engaged in turning it around. They signed him on that basis, as did we.

And again, it's not just the booze that's freely available to someone with a bit of cash to throw around in the toon, now is it?

His heads clearly not in it still.

I have no idea what he’s done wrong…wasnt my link or accusation

Ok. If true, then very sad but we shouldnt touch him with a barge pole.
Could be their expectations have risen in the four months and they want to get rid of a high earner to finance signings elsewhere.
