He’s worth a punt. Realistically what proven striker in the English leagues are we going to get? Andre Grey is the only other one I can think about
I remember a few weeks ago saying decent goalscoring strikers aren’t sat on free transfers or get loaned out.
Someone pointed out they are and mentioned Andre Grey…..now he’s on a free again :)

Bamfords goal record is not even good in the last 4 years

Selles wont want him anyway

But he did join a L1 club this season in Stockport. Not even a promotion favourite; they're having a good season but they weren't expected to be near the top. He'll go where the money is and where he feels he'll be first choice.

I wonder if the wide player is Harvey Knibbs; he's in form at the moment for Reading and there seemed to be some suggestion that despite this apparent clause with Selles about signing Reading players, we could still do it as they need the money.

A permanent signing could very well be somebody Selles knows about and fits his style (given that our squad is full of players that don't), so it would make sense that it's going to be a Reading or Southampton player.

Will Smallbone on loan would help cover Mehlem's departure and would add actual quality and a bit of experience alongside Puerta and Simons. Depending on wages, other Southampton players who haven't played much and could be heading out on loan include Kamaldeen Sulemana (who I was really impressed with when he played against us last season), Ryan Fraser, Ben Brereton Diaz, Nathan Wood, Charlie Taylor and Paul Onuachu. Not saying they'd all be great signings, but there's plenty of experienced heads in Southampton's squad that aren't playing and Saints might want off their books to help get players in.

EDIT: Somebody mentioned a potential Leeds player, they're actively trying to get rid of Bamford, wonder if that's somebody we might be able to get on the cheap.

Barry's reputation is on a whole different level than it was 6 months ago and half the league wants him.

We've no chance signing Smallbone either, he'd have his pick of the Championship too.

Is it though? He tore up League 2, now he's done well in League 1. Yes that means his reputation has enhanced further, but think it's a bit much to be saying he could walk into just about any side in the league.

I said half the league wants him, they do.

I think there's a lot of delusion on here about the players we'll be able to attract this window. Lewis Gibson choosing Preston should tell you everything.

I just don't think his reputation has spiked as much as you seem to think it has.

I don't think anyone expects Barry to arrive, just suggesting he's the profile we should be after.

Definitely don't want Bamford. Highly expensive and hardly ever fit. He's a proven waste of space.
I used to regularly go to watch Huddersfield on a corporate when Jordan Rhodes was there. The people who invited me thought he was brilliant and there was a reall buzz about him and an expectation that he’d soon be going on to really big things. But every time I saw him he was ****e. Never saw him score, never really saw him set anyone else up to score. Seemingly a level of talent massively below his ego.

If he comes then I’ll support him, but for me Bamford is cut from the same cloth.

Anyone know why they have not offered a new contract?,

Not sure if it’s still there, but there was an article on the BBC website, looking at where each club would be looking in the transfer window. There were 3 or 4 not in the market for a striker. Of the few available, we aint gonna be top of their preferences. I’m not sure what the answer is, just pointing out it’s going to be very difficult. Only hopes are that Selles has some contacts at Reading or Southampton or that Villa/Liverpool/Man City are still clamouring to loan us their untried players.
