Danns would be a great signing and it would allow Joseph to go out on loan where he can get more regular games which he needs at this stage of his career. Brid Town would be a good move for him.
I really think another loan signing is a mistake. A LB is the only position worth strengthening at this stage and then let the squad settle. I think as a few observed, Stoke may have gone wrong because we had too many options. We've seen it before, it takes a few games for managers to get to grips with half a dozen new players, and if Selles can get consistent performances from essentially half a new XI then he's doing well.
Priority order for me would be a LB, a CB, a RB .... only then consider further strengthening elsewhere (unless someone absolutely ridiculous for this level became available to us, and was coming for the right reasons obviously). I thought Barry was the sought-after signing as an 'insurance policy' to help make sure we get to safety. Not meaning to seem ungrateful, but I don't get it either.
I don't think a CB is necessary at all. We have a rather good one who will be fit in a few weeks and McLoughlin and Jones have shown good form in recent weeks.
There's only a few weeks left of the season, and for us to avoid relegation. Hughes MIGHT be back fighting fit "in a few weeks", to help see out the last few games, there again he might not be, or he might have a relapse or re-occurence. It's also worth remembering it's not his first time out injured. I think it's risky. I know we have Burns (hopefully still), but I still think it's risky. But, as I think we agree, LB is the (even) more obvious one, and I don't get why it isn't being addressed .... unless the player they really want isn't available until the summer? - I just hope we are still a Championship side by then, can't take it for granted.
So the way I see it we'll have: ST: Pedro, Joseph, Danns Wing (most can play either wing): Kamara, Burstow, Barry, Gelhardt, Amrabat, Henrique, Sinik (lol) #8s: Crooks, Omur, Palmer, Puerta 6s: Alzate, Slater, Matazo Am I forgetting anyone? That's very crowded.
Burstow and Gelhardt can play up front too. I definitely wouldn't be in favour or signing any more midfielders or strikers. Surely we have enough? Defence needs some work - if we must sign someone.
Yeah, and Crooks can play wide or up top as well. I just worry that we're throwing a lot at the wall hoping it sticks but we'll end up having a number of games like the Stoke game where Selles is getting to grips with each player's capabilities and ends up making the wrong subs at the wrong times. One of the big reasons the subs seemed so effective against Sheff United is that outside of Matazo I think all the subs were players who had been around a while and therefore Selles knew exactly what they'd bring when thrown on. I'm really biting my tongue (holding my hand?) to not compare to last January but it was a good example of how turning over the squad too much in January takes a while to work.
Not a massive fan of the signing but someone like Murray Wallace as a stop gap for 3 months just makes sense right now. Doesn’t need to be bombing up and down, just making us better at defending set pieces and a steady figure in the backline. Jacob again dropped to levels we see too often when he’s thrown in.
The Danna rumours, if true, are what annoys me about acun....we've had a strong window, corrected mistakes of the summer then like a kid in a candy shop he's after an extra player in a position we now have enough options.....doesn't seem to know when to leave it be
The Celtic lad with the same surname as the prick at Southampton possibly??? Celtic offered an improved contract but the chip spice swung the deal….
