The ones that turned us down with greater frequency than both before he came and after he's gone. We seem to have much less of an issue getting them over the line this and last January than in summer. But it was a response to GFAWs post and should be read in that context.
Pretty much the whole of the division wanted Barry so we’ve done remarkably well to get him here. Even better if it’s for 18 months. Add a left back and I think that’s us done with just trying to get rid of a few fringe players.
I think we were just well-placed to get Barry - Acun has a good relationship with their owner - We developed Philogene well which essentially increased his value by £15million - We have a well thought of manger in Selles who has good history of developing young talent - We play a very similar system to Villa - We are lacking in LW where Barry excels, so can guarantee game time
Barrys loan fee is circa £1 million apparently... BTW also reading Stoke have signed Al Hamadi on loan from Ipswich...
He has, but he is primarily seen as a player who plays off the right. Perhaps, Kamara to make way for Gelhardt and Barry off the left.
It's about having strength in depth for the rest of the season. Assuming our squad has outgoings, it'll look like this: GK: Pandur, TLT RB: Coyle, Drameh LB: Jacob, Taylor (potentially) CB: Jones, Hughes, Burns, Macca CM: Puerta, Slater, Matazo, Alzate, Zambrano (on the off chance he gets his ban lifted) LW: Gelhardt, Barry RW: Kamara, Amrabat, Lincoln AM: Crooks, Palmer/Omur ST: Pedro, Joseph, Burstow One of Omur or Palmer will be off, count on that. Simons is pretty much gone, Racciopi is all but gone (which I'm hoping doesn't backfire on us at a crucial stage) and Bedia has been told he can go. So that's probably the squad assuming Taylor gets done. If Puerta plays on Saturday, I'm pretty sure he only has two more games to play before his deal is triggered and he becomes a permanent player, which will be why we are taking Barry on loan. We can technically have as many loan players as we want, it's just five in the matchday squad. So Taylor, Barry, Gelhardt, Lincoln and Burns would be the five after Puerta's deal is triggered.
I’m struggling to name the starting 11 at the minute. And do the likes of Casey Palmer and Burstow even get on the bench when everyone else is signed and fit?
What's the point coming here? He'll never get a game... 'Barry’s arrival will see him fight with the likes of Abu Kamara, Liam Miller, and Dogukan Sinik for a starting spot in the wide areas.'
I think it will be Burstow and Barry fighting for LWF, with Gelhardt and Kamara battling for RWF. Think all will get game time, starters running at defences, then fresh legs for 20-30 mins at the end. Similar with Joseph/Pedro.
I thought Burstow's preferred position was centre forward. Given we seem to have more wing options perhaps he'll get a go there.
Work in progress starting to take shape now. Some astute arrivals and possibly more to come yet. Barry a nice surprise, guarantee of game time perhaps. Wingback arguably still needed. Once injurious clear up we should have a decent squad again and something for Selles to really work with. UTT.
