There’s no doubt in my mind if we’d signed four players Walter knew from Germany, ideally from his former club, we’d be doing fine and he’d be our manager still.

I’m inclined to agree with you. I think if we took just half the chances we’ve squandered this season we’d be 16th-12th and Walter would still be here. Walter wasn’t the answer but I also refuse to believe he was the defining problem as to why we are bottom of the table. The same players have played two games under Dawson as interim and two under the new coach and look just as ****. Same defensive mistakes, same piss-poor finishing and decision-making in the final third, no physicality, no leadership on the pitch, nobody taking ownership and grabbing the game by the scruff of the neck etc. I said before Walter got the boot that this would be the case and I don’t want to say ‘I told you so’ but…

The players are just not good enough regardless of who the gaffer is.

I know. The likes of Coyle, Slater, Jones and McLoughlin were given contract extensions until 2026 under Rosenior. That’s fine. Just don’t renew them past that. We don’t have to sell them but keep them around as squad players then let their contracts run out.
The players I mean are new signings we made in in the 2024 summer transfer window

This seems to be pretty consistent with the messaging coming out of Cov when we signed him.

Thats how it is
I like palmer

But having him as our best player is a worry
Hes not good enough to be a teams best player in the championship and i dont mean to be critical of him

Hed be a great player for us if we had a good team

I agree. Rosenior’s style of play was steady but dull. The whole point of it was control possession and therefore the tempo of the game and expect the truly technically-gifted players to carry the team to victory via individual brilliance. Our output in the final third was heavily dependent on brilliant players like Philogene, Tufan, Carvalho, Delap etc. creating something from nothing. Philogene’s dribbling could take two or three players out the game. Tufan could score worldies outside the box. Delap could receive the ball with his back to a defender, turn and run past people with pace and power.

We don’t have that individual brilliance in the squad anymore. The only two players remotely capable are out for the season with ACL injuries. Last season was a mix of League One plodders and genuine Premier League or Championship top six quality players. Now we just have the League One plodders and a bunch of misfits from foreign leagues and extremely raw players. The players who are still here from last season like Coyle, Slater, Jones and McLoughlin look crap because they are crap.

So our front 4, or 40% of the starting outfield players?

Thankfully a lot are loans that can be ****ed off by next summer.

Of the players we signed permanently in the summer, which ones are that bad? Millar, Belloumi and Hughes are good players. Palmer’s decent on his day. Mehlem’s not done much but he only cost six figures and there would be teams in Germany that would gladly take him off us. The worst one is Giles who is contracted until 2027.

Palmer completely took the game by the scruff of the neck against Watford. Shame he was so absent on Saturday.

I think that’s why we managed to get him for a decent fee. Can probably get away with it at stronger teams but we haven’t got anybody else so he has to be an 8 or 9 out of 10 every week.

Slater is bang out of form but I’d stick him left wing as we haven’t got anyone else and it might help get the best out of Giles.

Longmans a good player to have for the squad playing the way it seems Selles wants to, very willing and pretty good at doing the dirty parts of the position and if he were to play consistently, I'm sure he would chip in with some goals too. I've also noticed a really good on field attitude in terms of trying to encourage others around him.

Longman is probably the closest we have to a game changer in terms of a moment. Just before they equalised he probably should’ve scored. He cut inside and if he’d lifted it a bit more we’d have been 2-0 up. It was his kind of situation too, 1v1 with space to cut in and shoot

Bloody hell, I didn’t realise things were that bad. Lord graciously help us
