This is from the FGR statement announcing his departure:

Winchester well and truly became a fan-favourite through his two and a half seasons at Nailsworth. Not only for his professional attitude and application when wearing the green & black strip, but for his leadership and ability to turn defence into attack so quickly.

Head Coach Mark Cooper said: "Carl has been fantastic for us during his time at the club and I have gone on record saying he is a Championship ability player.

"He was out of contract in the summer and of course we wanted to keep him. But, once you hear that Sunderland are interested, with all that it brings, how can you not let that happen."

"It's another player that we've managed to sell on - and we wish him well. Let's hope it's not long before he's playing in front of 40,000 supporters at the Stadium of Light.

"Carl is a quiet leader. He leads by example and from the very moment he arrived at Forest Green, you could tell he was a player with real quality. This all came out of the blue, but we wish him nothing but the best."

Great news.

Johnson knows him and Winchester obviously likes playing for him.

From what's been said he's different to what we have in midfield and supporters speak well of him.

Now for a real striker ....

We have a dearth of midfielders. Suggests 1 or 2 must be getting shipped out. Re: a striker. At least 1 if he isnt willing to give Curry or Benji a go.

Looks like a stick insect, wonder how long it'll be before he's pictured at McDonald's with Maguire and McGeady?

Is that since LJ came in,mate?

It's been a while but all accounts Parkinson didn't use it/want it. Bajamich was found using it but Parkinson wasn't enamored and took a while before he decided to go for him. He also turned down the chance to sign another foreign forward because he wanted Graham and O'Brien which the data didn't want.
So I've heard elsewhere anyway

We started when Tony Coton went (part of the reason he went I believe). It’s how we ended up with Xhemajli and being after Bajamic. Obviously wasn’t used for Graham and O’Brien though so we were/are obviously in transition.

Speakman and KLD are seemingly very big on it though. We’re being dragged into the 21st century. Hopefully we’re not lagging behind other teams too much and we can get ahead of the curve.

Thanks for all the replies lads, it’s not how I was brought up playing football but if it gets results who am I to argue. LJ seemed canny pissed off yesterday in his post match interview, it seems like the data isn’t adding up for a lot of the players.

27 year old from league 2. I wouldn't have picked that. I know **** all next to the scouting department.

Once upon a time I'd have thought it was out the left field and underwhelming.

With the new lot in store I'm expecting him to surprise us with a bit of undiscovered quality.
