How does our system suit jozy??

If we are playing the passing game, we will need our strikers to be good technically. Jozy is a trier, but struggles in most other departments, especially his ball control and vision.

Wickham is perfect for poyets system. He's got a great touch for a big lad, holds the ball up well, and is very good with his feet. Add to that his ariel power and strength, and you couldn't get a better striker for poyet.

Remember, it was poyet who gave him a chance in the first place, so he must fancy him for his style of football.

He knows how to work as part of a unit. The other two don't. But it doesn't matter cause he can't seem to score which makes him just as useless as the others which is my point. Wickham is not perfect for poyet's system imo, he has a poor reading of the game, a complete lack of composure to be effectively involved in patient build up and can't pass for ****. Poyet actually has admitted that giving Wickham a chance was an act of desperation and if he's not going to sign a new contract then he'll try and sell him. Hardly a glowing reference. But, it's all about opinions, simple for me, while people debate who's better than who it doesn't matter to me anymore, I don't think any of them are good enough to play the system, i don't mean they're not good enough to play this level.

Gyan would be tailor made for this team. He had to be prick.

Reading this thread has amazed me.

We are 2 games into the season and people have changed their minds about wickham already!

I was at the utd game. And although he was out of position, I thought he played well.

Reading this thread has amazed me.

We are 2 games into the season and people have changed their minds about wickham already!

I certainly don't want to see him leave, but if he is refusing to sign a new contract then you surely can't blame the club for wanting to sell him rather than wait until he can go for next to nowt!

He's flavour of the month with many, and it's just no justified. He had a handful of decent games in 4 years.

I'm not having the 'not given a chance' thing either, every time he played he was ****, and he was out on the piss midweek.

Disagree totally gonads - it is certainly justified. Without his goals last season we'd now be playing championship football - he's effectively saved the club £60m. Saying he's only had a handful of decent games, whilst it's true, it's true with reasons - i.e. he's never had a single chance until the closing stages of last season. Never played more than maybe 2 games in a row. AND he's only 21. He's not in his prime. I have said for a long time tha Wickham should be our main striker. Big lad with good feet who is scared of no-one. He was superb on Sunday against Utd - ran them ragged - Fletcher tried one overhead kick in 90 minutes and literally nothing else!

If what Tony says is true, I'd get Gus talking him around and telling him he's the main man. With him at the centre of a focal 3 with Johnson and Buckley (on Sunday's form) or Giaccherini in there I think he'd flourish.

Sorry Bry but I just don't get how Jozy is better for us than Wickham. Jozy has many more flaws that Wickham does and also doesn't score goals. He ran 50 yards with the ball on Sunday and had support either side - the crowd obviously willed him to score (and, TBH, I don't mind a striker being greedy as they have to be to score goals) but he fluffed his lines when others were better placed - much in the way Wickham got slated for by some last season against Southampton. I want Altidore to prove me wrong but I see so little that is endearing in football terms so far. Wickham on the other hand, more goals and assists than Altidore last season. Altidore has some lovely touches sometimes (Colback's goal against the mags for instance) but his only assist last season was a miscontrolled pass where he was effectively tackled by Borini. I'd take Wickham over Altidore on any day

Personally I think we need better than all 3 of our main strikers, not an easy thing to sort out though as were finding out this transfer window. We all know that he who's name cannot be spoken fits in well with the way we play but time is running out. Hope Poyet has some surprise ace up the sleeve but I can't see it unless he's leaving it for the last minute.

If Poyet wants to play 2 strikers, I would prefer Wickham and Jozy together. I dont see what Fletcher offers the team in that role

You're missing my point too fella, I didn't say Jozy was better for us than Wickham. I said Jozy suits the style better, which is my personal opinion and nothing more. If you read what I said propperly I said the fact that jozy can't score offers it's own problems which means he isn't good enough ethier. I'm going to polish trud here. Let me reiterate again. I don't fance any of them as long term Sunderland strikers.

btw, and I'm not picking sides here, you are, If you're going to hold Jozy not scoring from a 50 yard run, I think thats rich, Buckley played Connor through into the box, he was unmarkerd, had time for a touch and it required a simple finnish and he produced a strike that wasn't even worthy of 20k a week let alone 42. I've seen Sunday League players finish from there with class and elegance.

I really want to have a discussion with you lads but not if you're going to twist and manipulate my words then forget it. You lot crack on an polish your turds together, as it stands, It's my personal opinion that I don't want any of them. Don't draw me into you your who's better than who. Not intrested. It's irrelevant to me. They all have serious flaws that in my opinion makes them a bad fit for the system.

Its quite simple, Wickham is the best player we have got for playing the lone striker role, had we signed Borini then I would have said he would actually be a decent option up front on his own.

BUT

As it stands for whatever reason Wickham has not signed a deal. For me he either signs and he gets the chance at that role with Fletcher and Jozy as back up or he does not sign and we are going to have to get rid and spend big big money on replacing him.

I cannot quite understand the situation really unless the club has some master plan we don't know anything about which is either to start a bidding war on deadline day to get the maximum or do something that will make him sign.

My view of it is this: He wont sign and never will sign as he has this idea that as a free agent he is going to get some mega deal, for him playing another 12 months to put him in the shop window is the ideal situation.

The Clubs view: No bugger will take him for more than 6m so we might as well keep him for a year and get the compensation its cheaper than loaning someone else and he will want to play well to get his dream move.

My view: The bosman rule has meant players are quite happy to run their contracts down now, your not signing a player permanently anymore your just loaning their services for 3 4 maybe 5 years. Its ruining football as the players can say jump and the clubs have to say how high?? I would let him rot in the reserves for 12 months and see who wants him then, we will still get our compensation, it sends out a clear message that we wont be ****ed around.

Had it come across the other way I'd have backed him to get a better shot off

I don't think he's a bad footballer, I just suspect that he doesn't fit our system well.

He got bags of potential mate, no denying that, but potential is pretty common, most don't fulfil it, the fact that he is the best striker at the club(I think he probably is) to me shows, despite the millions spent, that our pool of strikers is shocking. 4 strikers, £31m spent and our best option is raw potential? That to me says it all. Can't wait for Gus to have his own pool of strikers to pick from because our previous managers/DoF have completely and utterly failed imo.

Do You think Gus would have signed any of our 4 strikers this summer had they been available for transfer from another club? I don't think so myself like.

This is what I want to see mate, 2 proper wingers and Connor up top.

I've made no secret that I still have reservations about him, but to make a proper decision I need to see him, in his correct role, with proper service.
