He doesn't think it's for him - he probably doesn't think anything! He is barking (I'm assuming that is the problem anyway) because when he thinks there is a threat, thousands of years of evolution by natural selection have made that his behaviour - who knows maybe in a few more thousand years dogs will evolve not to bark everytime the door goes.
Maybe a little heavily answered but you shouldn't attribute human emotions to animals.
