On the bright side if we did leave the EU then we could restrict teams to so many foreign players. Might help English football.

Fallen behind ??? - have they at any stage in the last decade ever been ahead, or even alongside - I don´t think so.
Chelsea Man U & Liverpool won it in the last 10 years if that counts.
Also English clubs have appeared in the final 7 times in the last decade.
They have only slipped the last 2 seasons.

In each of 06-07, 07-08 and 08-09 there were three English semi-finalists in the CL. If that's not being ahead opf the rest, I really don't know what is.

But it only takes a second to score a goal and in 2009 we were relegated, things move on quickly, quoting things from 9 to 6 years ago hardly demonstrates being ahead of the rest. I'm glad the last two seasons have been poor for the English clubs- more piss taking opportunities

English sides being ahead or even alongside teams like Bayern or Barca in the last decade was mentioned.

It doesn't matter, all I was clumsily trying to say (although beautifully elegant in my head) Things change rapidly in football, in the last few years English clubs have won **** all , therefore have slipped behind

I think it's down to poor coaching at youth level and youth development in general.

Not enough emphasis on technical ability at the right age.

Going to be interesting on Saturday.

If we get sucked into the way Ipswich play I can see us losing it.

We have to maintain width this time and get Whitaker and Olsson forward. If we can do this then I think we will be ok. Hooper and Hoolahan to start for me with Jerome coming on as sub after 75 mins.

I think I am agreeing with you. At least I agree with this!

My point was only that for a brief window of about four seasons, English clubs did look like, and indeed their results in the CL backed up that the Premier League was, the best league in the world.

English clubs are a long way behind now.
