The trouble for Reed as a player from what i've seen is that he doesn't suit being a sub.

Usually you sub because you desperately need a goal or you desperately need to stop one. So strikers and defenders are always likely to be used first.

If Alderweireld was poor in midfield then you would question the logic of the change, but when you have two senior international centre backs on the bench and in Yoshida one with a lot of experience and a player as versatile in Toby I can't disagree with the decision against two sides where we see less of the ball than usual.

Unless we go for a very attack minded line up it looks likely that Reed will start on Monday. He'll have a few days to prepare both mentally and tactically and i'm confident he can put on a good performance

Alderweireld isn't dynamic enough to play in midfield. He's a centre back. He's too limited. Man City decided to give him all of the time in the world on the ball when he moved into midfield, they knew he wasn't going to hurt them. We didn't get up to much in attack second half against Arsenal either. Wanyama isn't the most creative as it is. Wanyama works at DM, but I don't like him as a CM. Having two limited players in the midfield three that aren't quick off the mark is taking it too far for me, especially with Yoshida at centre back.

If Reed isn't ready then fair enough. But why play a centre back in midfield when we looked out of ideas against City playing him there? Davis and Wanyama are good enough players for a 4-2-3-1 with Mane, Tadic, Long and Pelle infront. Mane should have come on for Cork with Tadic moving central (If Reed isn't ready). Koeman has got it badly wrong in the last two games with his changes and tactics.

Thank you!!

Someone else was watching the same game as me. Toby got absolutely found out in midfield during the Man City game and was at fault on two seperate occasions for the goals, firstly giving the ball away, and secondly not chasing back to cover the outside of the box. He was okay in the Arsenal game, but that's about it. Definitely would prefer an actual midfielder to play there. Throw Reed in, I'm sure he can handle it.

He was excellent against Arsenal. It's good to see people judging a player in one position after two halves of football. Brilliant lads; well done.

I'd prefer a natural midfielder, but to dismiss a player in a position after two halves is mad, especially when he was good in one.

Agree 100%. He reminded me a lot of Morgan with the range of passing against Arsenal, but I think the injury came because he just isn't used to playing box to box, especially on what looked like a slightly slippery pitch.

Not sure about that, his thinking may have been sound, but the players didn't respond as well as they should have done or perhaps are not good enough to adapt. Easy to be a critical table top manager in the cold light of day, no doubt Ronko will have a new plan using the strengths of what he has available, we shall see.

With you Tintin.
Not been happy with RK decisions on selection and subs in last three games
Against AV we played 4-2-4 and it didn't work as we couldn't manage the transition from defence/defensive midfield to attack. Should have picked Corky as Davis's replacement (injured)
Against Man City and Arsenal, he moved Toby out of defence to cover the lose of an injured midfielder and replaced him with Yoshi thus breaking up the best defence in the Premiership and guess what? We lost both games.
For me we need specialist players so Reed should be picked ahead of disturbing our wonderful defence

Some people just love to have a moan about anything. It's kind of sad tbh.

Maybe, just maybe Ron and the coaching staff understands the attributes of all members of the squad and how they fit into their formations better than we supporters do, after all they do spend virtually every day working with them. Switching Toby to DM to replace Morgan and Corky would not have been a kneejerk decision, it would've been decided before the match. From what I know of Reed (which isn't much!), he is a more advanced midfielder and would've probably come on if Davis was injured or as a tactical switch.
I understand that RK not perfect and will make errors but he has taken us to third in the league in December, so he can't be doing too badly so far!

It isn't even necessarily that we are saying they are mistakes. Within the context of this season, Koeman has done pretty much everything right. However, I think it is okay to say we have bought the club rubric about 50% youth and I was looking forward to seeing more of Reed this year. Personally, I want more players to come through - and Reed will only do that if he's given a chance. He may flop - but at least give the boy 15 minutes here or there. We've only used 2 subs in a lot of matches this year, after all...

If we accept that the management are right 100% of the time then there's no point having a forum!

We drew at Villa who put 10 men behind the ball. Then pumped it up hoping for a mistake so Gabby could get it. We lost to a City team who were pumped after beating Bayern. 3-0 was a tad harsh on us. We lost 1-0 to Arsenal as we were down to ten men. We are 3rd in the league. Not much to moan about really is there?

Well no, but we're not perfect. It should be 95% positive comments and 5% negative, by proportion. Freedom of speech!

A forum, or maybe this forum, is a talking shop, or as Godders always says, it's a pub without the beer. We provide the drink in our own homes.

As such, we accept that there is absolutely zero we can do about what goes on at SFC, and if we bothered to organise ourselves we'd probably not change anyone's direction either. So, in a sense, although we don't think the club are 100% correct in whatever they do, they probably are, in terms of whether we could do better.

It doesn't stop us observers, supporters, fans, making comments we are absolutely unqualified to make, nor getting annoyed, or put out, when someone else, who is equally unqualified to make a counter comment, actually does so.

Not much point in us being here is there..? Yet here we are. :)
