    Random question time.
What do you consider to be "the north" in England?

The people of Stoke seem to be split.
Whenever I've heard someone mention it, I get the impression most think that Stoke is in "the north".
Fairly split according to the local rag

I'd say it feels like we're more out in no man's land Midlands.

Where do YOU "draw the line"? :emoticon-0176-smoke

I think the north side divide is damaging to the nation, and the north and south should unite...and kick the **** out of the brummies. (c) Richard Digence.

Probably the accent I struggle to understand the most, tight call with rough scouse.
Instructor the last couple of weeks from Lichfield, kinda sounds like some sort of speech impediment at times.

Wind him up. It's great fun, their voice goes through stages from being robotic, to sounding like a drag queen and then to a really high pitched noise that must hurt dogs ears. :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Anywhere North of Watford. Anywhere South of Berwick.

Stoke is pronounced "Sterk" in 'Ull. Bastards beat us 3-2 in the FA Cup 6th round once. Waggy made Gordon Banks look average. Just like he made Bonetti look ordinary a few years before that game.
Sterk is still in t'North mind.

    Another random question.

What are the 3 most irritatingly overused words or expressions you hear these days ?

    For me:

    1) Absolutely.
A bloody simple "yes" (or even a "no") would suffice.

    2) Brilliant.
Particularly when referring to a goal, a tackle, a pass or a goalie's save. Ain't that what footballers are paid to do routinely ? Applies to almost every incident in most sports these days.

    3) Global pandemic.

Every bloody expert, interviewer or respondent to questions in the media obviously have no idea what "pandemic" means. Global is intrinsically part of it's definition.

    I lead a sad life.

Oxford is not in the North.

The North begins around Skegness but doesn't become the 'proper' North until you hit the M62.

The Midlands is pretty much a buffer zone where the divide can be shifted constantly to fit certain narratives.

Everything above the Midlands is 100% the North, and everything below is 100% Southern ****e.

Wales fits more with the North than the South.

Is Spain North, or South ?
North of the equator it be. South of Spitzbergen it be.
    The definition/categorization is flexible.

I used to go into meetings in the late '70s and early '80s and people kept bring up the word 'issue'. I always used to respond with "What's the 'effing problem?"
    Drove me nuts.

Everywhere south of the Humber is southern, north of it is northern. Ergo Northumberland! :emoticon-0110-tongu
