I've heard that the Trent is a decent cutoff. North of the Trent Notts County are more Northern, and South of the Trent Forest are Southern.

Meriden near Coventry is historically recognised as centre of England.
So up from there is North and down is South.

Doesn’t fit with any of our thoughts though.

That's because you've split the country into two, north and south when it's been split into three, north south and Midlands

I spent a few months collecting business rates in Birmingham. Very odd times indeed. The hotel I used was a converted warehouse.
I made the mistake of describing it as such to the Birmingham office manager, who promptly rang my boss to say I was complaining that she had put me in a converted whorehouse, when in fact it was a very nice and expensive hotel and she often stayed there when she was working late!

Genuine example of how some people don't under stand what I am saying. I had to instruct the world most expensive plumbers for some work last week in London.
No one else was available. But I did not receive copies of my invoices from them, now I know why.

    They sent them to:

    m*******@g********-******sondoctor.uk

    Instead of

    m*******@g********-******son.co.uk

    Agreed.

I consider anyone from Manchester or Sheffield as Northern but anyone from Grimsby as not being Northern.

In most cases I don’t consider them to be human but I’m sure you catch my driftage.

    South Bankers are not Northern.

    IMO.

The reason London plumbers are the worlds most expensive.....

I was staying at my brothers, outside London. Early one morning he woke me to tell me the shower pump had packed up. Found the nearest merchants, "easy to find, just head into London on this road and it is on your right". At 8.00, rang them to check they had one in, yes. So, set off. Arrived back at the job after an easy peasy 8 mile round trip at 11.30. Yes, yes, how remiss not to have 300 quids worth of shower pump in the van, just in case. What was a simple straightforward 20 minute pump change, took nigh on four hours. And that was before congestion charges upped the ante.

The going rate is £125 per hour plus vat. I needed a plumber and leccy urgently and ringing around was getting me nowhere so had to use Pimlico. They turned up within the hour. Expensive, but when you are onsite between the Mall and Pall Mall with time constraints, you have to do it. The lads who came out are taking home in the region of £90k per year. I was on £150 per hour 15 years ago when working business rates in the same area. I couldn't hack it. No parking, taking ages to get from one case to the next and worse of all, Joe public milling around everywhere.
