It's impossible to answer this currently. Even the shape is so hard to predict. For me Traore is a nailed on starter, but then he's had a disrupted pre-season so maybe not straight away. But if he was starting, that would probably suggest only one striker. Tetteh has obvious talent but I don't think we've seen enough of him to say he should definitely start over Oscar. Delap is an unknown quantity. And then there's Tufan who as we know is on big money. And there's supposedly another number 10 type player still on the way in. Allahyar as a striker seems to be a popular thing but we've not seen it for over a year now so I think we have to accept that there must be a reason managers don't want him up there. I think there's more to come from him wherever he plays, but it looks like we'll have to be patient with him. Assuming we don't pick up a load of injuries in these areas again, there's going to be a lot of good attacking players left out.
We pretty much always look better with Tetteh up there over Oscar. Oscar was pretty poor against Grimsby and for a finisher, he missed 3 big chances and this isn't an anomaly either Luke Waterfall is a bit of a brute when I've seen him for Grimsby at their level and Tetteh dominated him. We know Benji needs to be a little more composed in front of goal but that goal he created for Jarvis was a beauty (and the ball definitely didn't look out)
I agree with this. But part of me wonders if Oscar gets more chances because he is putting himself in the right positions - strikers instinct and all that. It’s why I’d want Tetteh alongside him, rather than one or the other. Maybe have Delap coming on later in the game. But then what if Delap is really f*cking good? Oh let’s just play all 3.
..........With respect, I don't think he's come here to sit on the bench...He's a nailed-on starter. Maybe out right in a kind of one man forward support role. Oscar probably with Traore in the hole and three across the park...Slates, Seri and Tufan or Simons. I'd be suitably flabbergasted if he didn't start week in-week out.
You can now just about name a complete second team on the bench and replace half the team on the field. I think that's going to change the way games are managed (again) - so it'll become less likely that the forwards who start the game are on the pitch at the end and those named as substitutes will get plenty of game time. There's probably going to be a lot of player changes both in-game and over the course of the season. It's not so much about who's the best as how deep is the squad.
Will make a nice change to finally have plenty of decent choices from the bench. However, we're still short of pace, physicality, leadership and a better keeper. 3 or 4 key signings minimum away. Looks like we'll once again be playing catch up over the first few weeks of the season.
The Grimsby game I thought was a little bit of a reality check on Tetteh. We've not really seen him get into scoring positions before but in that game he went through on goal a few times and Cartwright got the better of him on each occasion. He's undoubtedly got some quality but he's not proven himself yet.
I don't think Tetteh is a natural goalscorer but he offers so much more than just goals. I'd expect him to score 6-8 if he plays regularly but I'd also expect him to get into double figures for assists. His link play and hold up play is very good too so he's certainly the most well rounded striker we have.
