Here's an interesting Q for everybody, let's say Coq never emerged last season, and we had to stick with Flamini while Arteta was out, and we managed to sign Shneid this summer, would anyone still want us to sign another DM after we got Shneid?

I think the answer in general would be no, we have always been calling for Arsenal to buy one solid DMF, not two.

But now we do have a proper out and out DMF who did the role perfectly, but people are asking for another DMF, so what's the difference? Is it because some still don't have faith in Coq?

Again, let's be honest, we have been always calling for Arsenal to buy one proper DMF, I can't recall any summer where we were like we need to buy 2, it was always one we needed, we have that one now, so why the need for 2? If we signed Shneid this season, and we didn't have Coq, I doubt people would be saying ok we need to now go buy another DMF.

Schlinderlin is a more experienced and established player than Coqs, who has just emerged after playing a very good half season. I think the expectations from Arsenal fans are rightfully high and its hard to put all your faith in a half a season player. If he continues to play well and improve, then that's fine, but it is also risky to put all your eggs in a Coqs basket, when we know he is new to all this. Schlinderlin is not only a well established Prem player but is also a French international. Coqs has a couple more years to catch up to his level of experience.

We were calling for a "WC" DM cos we had none. We stumbled upon half a season from Coquelin, who has been in the squad for many years and was written off. It will be irresponsible to not support the lad with competition and keep him hungry. Completely irresponsible. We aren't saying go spend £20M, but get in better than Arteta and Flamini.

Yes, because Arteta's fitness is a huge problem right now and no one knows if he can be relied on as a back up next season, and Flamini just isn't good enough, and it seems like he's being sold anyway. I think if Arteta had stayed fit then it probably wouldn't be an issue.

Anyway my choice would be these guys...

1. Kroos
2. Pogba
3. Vidal
4. Matuidi
5. Schneiderlin

All of which won't happen.

Kroos is hardly a DMF.

Neither are the rest of them. It's not another DMF we need, it's someone who is versatile, someone to play with Coquelin and someone to play instead of him.

TBH I am a big fan of Kroos, but Cazorla-Ramsey deserve their place in the team, and Kross isn't going to accept just being on the bench. At the moment Kroos is hardly the player we need, we have more than enough in that department.

I disagree. I think another DMF is what we need. Someone who does what Coquelin does (and is good on the ball. Hence Schneiderlin ticking all the boxes). Arteta is not a bad player but just not mobile enough. He's not a natural when it comes to the defensive side of the role. We have a lot of options for someone to play beside our Coq like you're saying. Santi, Rambo and Jack. Even Ox is an option. Having Coquelin now, we don't necessarily need to spend big on a "WC" DM. I like the Greg from Sevilla and Carvalho (big potential). Some people I know have even mentioned Nzonzi. These type of signings will not "kill" Coquelin like some gooners are arguing. Instead their presence allows them to try and maintain a high level of performance. I would prefer a big lad.

On the nail. I think we all have to agree that for a long campaign that involves 4 different trophies, we need a squad that covers all bases. At the moment, we have NO suitable cover for the DM spot. We have good depth in all departments, even at CF (we will see if Welbeck/Walcott can step up) we have cover. But if Coqs is unavailable or off-form, as cover, we have an under par Flamini and an injury prone Arteta, who isn't the type of player we want in that role, as highlighted in your post. We've seen the effectiveness of a properly operating DM on our team, something that we've struggled to have for years. It would make complete sense if we got additional DM cover.

He is a good signing, guess you're not interested in Shneid anymore.

Manchester United may be on the verge of adding to their midfield ranks with a deal for Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger but according to Sky sources, the club are still interested in bringing Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin to Old Trafford.

That's Sky Sports, Guardian and MEN all reporting we still want Schneiderlin.

With the German, you don't really need him anymore, you already have Blind, and Carrick. Plus Shneid is not worth 25 million, could use that money to go buy a striker.

Carricks 34 and Schweinsteiger is 31. Makes sense to bring Schneiderlin in as hes 25. Covers us now and for the future with both Blind and Herrera still young.

The reason i brought it up is because i saw the talk of him going to United, meaning he was available, so would have liked to have given it a crack, i didn't just bring it out of the blue, so i already knew he was most likely off to you.

But not the end of the world, he is a very good player, you need him more than we do.
