We need a DoF.
This knee jerk, appoint from within, change direction, old head, appoint from within, knee jerk, unheard of foreigner, appoint from within, is costing us dearly. No strategy, wasted signings, lost youth, struggle along, more new signings.
If we'd have invested all the money wasted in paying off managers, loan fees for cr@p and dud strikers, we could be signing Haaland by now. Not that it would have helped with all the sideways / backwards passing.

I think we're now firmly in the hole that we've dug for ourselves. The pattern you describe is more than likely to put off any boss that could do a good job for us. Prospective candidates will be looking at our track record and wondering if they're prepared to have their reputation ruined here.

Okay, 5 games don't make a season and it could all go to pot again BUT
Riza has done much better than expected.
He has got us playing on the front foot which no one has done for years.
We are scoring goals and could have got a lot more.
3 clean sheets in 4 games.
Colwill at last realising his potential.
Tanner showing there is a player in there.
Robinson enjoying his football.
Turnbull showing why we paid £2m for him, same for Robertson.
Others showing their abilities.
We have defenders who can defend and 2 young cb's chomping to get their chance.
A host of youngsters shining in the Under 21's and younger teams.
It is not all perfect, more signings are needed in January.
Nevertheless, we need to get rid of the 'interim" and give Riza the full job, until the end of the season at least.
I hope VT, Dalman and Choo get their acts together and make the appointment this week.

The ideal solution would be to make Riza's appointment permanent and install a senior manager as a(n interim) DoF to hold his hand.
DoF to work downwards with the backroom staff and upwards to get the board thinking straight.
As Morrison said, a 10 year plan. Align the club top to bottom. If a manager moves on, no need to lurch to a different style or type of player. More efficient, less costly and leverage the academy with a clear pathway from U8s to first team.
If the DoF is ignored, somewhere down the line, Riza will falter and we'll be off in a different direction.

It’s becoming even more blindingly obvious what went wrong under Bulut. He brings in an attacking coach, Riza but Bulut sets it up defensively and the players just didn’t buy into it and he loses the dressing room.

I know that for a couple seasons, even when winning, regular attendees at games were disillusioned with the tedious football on offer.
It must have been frustrating for Riza coaching under Erol. The two obviously weren't aligned.
Was Riza actually Erol's man, or, like some of the players that were signed, was it a board decision?
Tan is in a tricky position now. Ditch Riza and the players will be miffed along with the fans. And if the new man fails to live up to current form everyone will be asking why the hell they changed manager.
The easy option is to leave the set up as it is.
The sensible option would be to leave Riza as head coach and (can I borrow your percussion instrument Cling?) put a(n acting) DoF in place to help with the long term strategy.
As a slight aside, Liverpool decided against Amorim before appointing Slot, as he didn't fit their footballing philosophy. They don't like his 3 at the back. That's what footballing nouse at the top does. Evolution not revolution.
Back to Omer, it is fascinating that he's resolved issues at both ends of the pitch at the same time.

Every interview with a player sees them waxing lyrical about Riza, both Callums today. Why would you risk that at present?
The board need to be smart about any contract they offer though. And any players they sign in January.

And if he can integrate an U21 or two into the squad, what a bonus.

Is it that necessary to appoint him as ‘manager?’
He’s already employed to run the football side of the business so is there a need to in effect simply change his job title?
It may be different though if he wants the security of a contract with all that comes with it.
Not though unsurprisingly Tan may not want to do that given what has happened before in recent years.

Omer must obviously have an "employment contract" of some sort - it's a legal requirement. I presume it's no more than a rolling monthly contract with termination notice by either side limited to that.
A fixed contract period would only provide either side with a degree of security for the specified period with possible interim performance related options for the club to revisit - I imagine that was how Tan got shot of Bulut with minimal compensation.
Those performance related clauses also work the other way. If Omer were given the job until the end of the season and he hit various specified target objectives, there could well be a punch in the wallet for him too.
