Oh dear Chuck Berry, My Ding A Ling! But as I'm currently in the US I'll claim Johnny Nash - I Can See Clearly Now!
'kinell....Vera Lynn: Auf Wiederseh'n Sweetheart "based on sheet music sales". Really cheered me up that has. First City game- John Leyton "Johnny Remember Me". Midweek v Watford. We won and I am convinced the referee was "Mr N Callendar" or somesuch but that is probably false memory syndrome.
The number one when I was born is not certain because there was a newspaper and journalists' strike which prevented all publications going to the press. But it was as probably sodding Cliff Richard. I realise this exercise is going depress some of us nigh old farts. Thankfully I got into loads of great music from aged 12 until now.
My first game was 2nd v 1st in the old Division 2. November 3rd 1987 - Hull City 0-0 Bradford City. (I still have the program) And as I recall both teams went into terminal decline for a long time after this - despite occupying the top 2 positions at this point in the season. Both dropped away during the season and then subsequently down the divisions for the next decade. Quite ironically then, the no. 1 at this point was Bee Gees - You Win Again. http://www.number-ones.co.uk/1987-number-ones.html
Just found this, it tells you what film was No.1 at the box office. Sadly, it only appears to be the US box office, but is still interesting. http://playback.fm/birthday-movie
I think it is rubbish, but people seem to like it. His only good comedy is Happy Gilmore. And maybe The Wedding Singer.
