try 1 part sesame oil, 1 part rice vinegar and 3 oil as a little rice dressing. Be careful of the sesame, dont go mad

I remember having them for school dinners as a kid once, made me puke. You've got fatty congealed meat, warmed up, then disguised with batter adding more grease to an already lump of fat. Might as well go get a tub of lard and eat it. I've no intention of ever trying dripping.

Proper beef dripping from the mid 50's was a treat and look fondly on those days especially the brown savoury bits on the bottom. But PEK, :emoticon-0132-envy:

I used to love school dinners. Was all proper stuff cooked from scratch on site. Always went back for seconds.

The calories I used to burn in those days <laugh>

The majority of school dinners weren't that bad, although I came from a poor background, so hunger probably made them look better than they actually were. Only times I was fooked, was when they had cheese flan, liver or spam fritters. I always knew when it was going to be cheese flan, you could smell it a mile off. Loved roast dinner days.

Aye, we were so poor our school dinners were free.

Loved cornflake tart, bakewell tart, spotted dick to name a few.
They also did a bangin chicken casserole.

I've tried a few times to replicate the casserole but got nowhere near.

Yup free dinners. Probably would seem weird to kids today, praising school dinners, but like you say, back in them days they were cooked fresh on site or certainly were in the early years. Did you ever get the pink custard?

    Yeah, usually with marbled sponge.

And chocolate sponge with chocolate sauce <diva>

I always asked for the skin off the custard. Must have thought I was a nutter.

Lol my mum was the kinda woman who was too broke to pay for my school dinners and too lazy and stupid to ask for free school meals <cheers>

Later when I moved in with my grandparents, packed lunches ruled bruv. Delicious.
