Great atmosphere yesterday before I get my point across!

Only one thing ruined my night and it was really irritating, Two woman sat behind me with packed lunches chatting all game, and every time I turned my head around they were not paying any attention to the game. Two things really bugged me yesterday, when we scored they stayed seated until they felt like getting up to clap, and when Arsenal equalized I heard 'I think they scored', so what was the point in paying £30.00+ to do that? It is there money in all but c,mon.

Anyone happen to know what happened when something kicked off in the Itchen?

I sit in the Itchen North and it looked like a box full of Arsenal fans, someone threw an umbrella like a javelin towards them before police and stewards evicted the whole box!

If they were watching the game I will happily swap, but was there really anything negative about yesterday? thank god different people sit behind me each time.
 
I don't know what the point of that is, but at the same time I don't see the point in being annoyed about it either. Most people like to picnic in a park, perhaps by a nice lake where they can feed the ducks, but maybe some prefer to picnic in a stadium. Whatever floats their boats.

Not really annoyed but I really didn't get the point, someone who supports the team could have sat there.
 
Everyone has the right to enjoy the game how ever they want, we are all different in the way we support the team, I can't sing, won't sing. Some just turn up to be sociable with like minded friends, they don't all have to rabid red and white striped, tuneless rowdies. A couple of kids in front of me spent the whole game scrapping and fidgeting, rarely did they actually watch the game, and also departed 10 minutes before the end, so what? They have paid for their ticket and probably enjoyed the experience, I am too much of a gentleman to kick up a fuss, so I don't let it concern me. Yesterdays game was the best I have seen this Season, why anyone could go and not enjoy every nuance is beyond my comprehension, but each to their own, it's a free World.

No, he's right. The tickets were paid for so it's entirely their right. Perhaps they had never been to a football game before, and decided to go to this one. Cool. Up to them. We can't and shouldn't judge everyone by our passion. You should (if you haven't) go to a baseball or basketball game in the States - it's a social meet up rather than a fanatical watching of the game, as we have here.

To be honest, on the flip side, I don't understand the people (who invariably think of themselves as the proper fans) who go out and get pissed before/during the game. I did that once and found I didn't pay attention during it, and couldn't remember specifics after the game. So it didn't suit me at all. I like to really watch what happens, but I accept that's my way of watching it. Others may disagree, but I've paid the money, it's my prerogative.

That's an interesting perspective. Because I actually describe the experience of going to football matches in other countries as much more of a social event as opposed to in the US. Baseball is.. well, not exactly action-packed so that's different. But basketball... when I go to the games I do chat with friends but I'm still watching the game. I cheer when we score, I curse at opposing players and perhaps the ref. But I do that when I watch games at home as well. We are for sure more demonstrative at games as we get caught up in the excitement but it's not that different than watching on TV.

OTOH, I don't get the feeling like people in England watch MOTD on BBC they are on their feet the whole time chanting songs about their team and their players. The level of social participation is entirely different, and quite exhausting. Going to a basketball game to a large degree is like seeing a movie. Sit wherever you like, and just watch the game.

Not that I'm knocking it. I agree that if you pay your money and you don't disturb others, then you are entitled to read a book, text your friends or otherwise not participate in the usual way.

I'm also understanding of people who leave games early, which seems to drive people here particularly mad. I just figure that in a massive crowd of tens of thousands there will inevitably be people in a time-crunch. I look at it like those are people who would prefer to see the entire game, but have other commitments. So it's more like they are massive Saints fans, and are willing to pay for a full ticket even if they can only watch 80 minutes of a game because it's still worth it to them. As opposed to people who just can't be arsed to stay 90.

Or, as a counterpoint... they are just idiots.

Because, out of a crowd of 30,000, there is high statistical chance that you are sat next to a ****ing idiot. Possibly a criminal, maybe a rapist. Makes you think eh?
 
Evening matches at the Dell meant I had a run to the ferry with a chance I could miss the last one and face a long and late journey on the car ferry....did I leave early? Never...I wanted to see the end of the match and applaud the team whilst walking backwards to the exit.

Just kidding.......I guess that is the advantage of having season ticket holders all around you so that over the years you get to know them. I have two lasses sat next to me and all they do is talk...but to be fair...they do multi task and watch the game as well........<laugh>
 
People used to seek me out to speak to me, so presumably I am not totally annoying. However, I am a squealer who lives in constant fear. There was one daft occasion when I panicked and nearly climbed over the back of the seat to get away from a perceived goal threat...at least everyone around me had a laugh.
 
I sit in a row with 6 family and friends, I'm at the end but there is one seat left next to me and the press box (the end of my row borders the press box). The amount of randoms I get there is amazing.

I've had ranges from a gorgeous young woman to a guy who looked like he lived on the street wearing a straw hat. The worst I had was during the Walsall promotion game, some old guy moaning and moaning on how crap were and how lazy all the players were etc. I wear a single hearing aid in my right ear (the side he was sitting on) so after about half an hour I made a big point about removing it and putting it in my pocket. He said "but you can't hear me". I said "exactly...."

And I thought that the deafness in one ear only benefitted me when my other half was moaning!
