    I have to disagree.

He's not talking about the future (which might possibly be useful) but about the past, which can't possibly be changed. And he's whining about a team that, bar the first few games of the season would have finished about ninth in its first season in the Prem.

The fact that the guy is just telling everyone how terrible every player was last season (I've not noticed anyone getting a positive mention) is what's winding people up and making them narky. If he was suggesting a solution or another approach, there might be a worthwhile debate.

Now, I know nothing about Lovren; never seen him play. I'm ambivalent but generally positive towards Gáston but I'm looking forward to a big improvement this season. We'll just have to wait and see. One rule I do live by: our management team and our paid scouts possibly know more than I do...

That's not what I said. I just said he knows more than me. Which is faint praise indeed as I know less than the average short plank. Hopefully he knows a LOT more than me.

If you look to the beginning of the whole discussion the point was that I wasn't going to trust Lovren was a good signing on the basis of our transfer record so far, because it was there was substantially more miss than hit in terms of end product since Pardew, IMO.

Despite that i'm hopeful. A player as sought after as him even with the troubles, is a coup for us.

Of the signings i've said Clyne has been a stonking one (though still risky at the time when taken into account with the whole policy). Also Boruc. I'm also regularly giving glowing references to morgan. Cork's fear of the goal irks me, but he's a splendid footballer otherwise.

I did suggest a different approach for last season. That approach was to spend a prroportion of our punt budget on a couple more steady eddies to compliment our already young squad and still a decent number of prospects coming in. I wouldn't suggest that approach this season. all our players have a season of PL experience and have shown what they are capable of now and that should be enough to not make additional PL journeymen a consideration.

What's winding people up is they've taken offence at part of what i've said and predominantly started arguing with me over what they think I said. They'll grow out of it.

Wonder why you feel "bullied" when you invite antagonism with wind-up-merchant-desperate-to-get-everyone's-back-up fodder like that?

they are already up. i refrained from comparing them to children until I was exposed to the same.

excellent continuation of the arguments which in no way make any effort to debunk my opinion though.

n.b. physical age isn't the only thing from which internet users have to eventually grow up. the experience of coming onto the internet may be new to some people and difficult for them to process without becoming wound up and lashing out. that's something even older people need to grow out of.

I grew out of messageboard rage a long time ago. edit: (though not for many years after I started)

I think more appropriate translation would be fiercely, not violently as google translated it.

For anyone who is unhappy with the fee paid for Lovren, just remember, Liverpool paid £35M for Andy Carroll

Have to see him play for Saints to make judgements about the price. If he's good, the price doesn't matter.

Had a discussion on that earlier. I've heard how he was rated at Zagreb, not at Lyon, and is reasonable enough for Croatia.

At the end of the day, he can play however he wants for those clubs, they're history. I'll judge him based on what he does in a Saints shirt.

Guys, I'm with Sotonist. I too wasn't impressed with our business at the start of last year. If it wasn't for the miraculous return of Puncheon and the emergence of Shaw we would definitely have gone down. There were obvious shortfalls in our squad which weren't addressed. (Though, admittedly this could be for a number of reasons. It is a whole different kettle of fish trying to sign players in the PL.)

Stop ganging up on someone who has a different opinion.

Indeed, these days from my point of view I think of anything under £10m as peanuts.
